I love this week's podcast. Skipping from a nice calm discussion at the beginning to a loud drunken slur-fight at the end is an excellent contrast. Note to self, stay quiet during conversations about math.
They've said its a lot of work to have to edit but that's only because they use a multi camera setup. I wish they would just point a single camera at the table.
Alright, so Gavin, you actually were KIND OF right during that math discussion, although you articulated your argument terribly. What you should have said was this "the odds of getting a sequence of numbers that you recognize as a pattern is much lower than the odds of some random sequence of numbers". Basically what this means is that the odds of predicting what numbers come up and in what order is way lower than just a set of random numbers showing up. So when you say 123456 coming up has a lower chance of coming up than ANY OTHER set of numbers, you are indeed correct, but 123456 coming up has the same chance of coming up as 587290. I hope that makes sense.
Yeah, Gavin, it was pretty bad. The worst part is that you were technically partially correct. There's just a difference between dependent and independent probability.
I got into a similar argument, when I thought that when you enter your 20s, you're actually in the second decade of your life, when in fact you're in your third (0-10, 10-20, 20-30 etc).
I loved the entire podcast I was really hoping someone would get smashed during it, but its okay that it did. I'm currently debating the odds of getting what you guys were talking about in the forums! This was the best podcast so far.
they are planning to Live Stream the podcast on TwitchTV right?
God damn, I hope that Gav stops saying stupid stuff, he is giving us Brits a bad name.
