2009 Quick ReviewJanuaryIt's 2009. I wake up in Honduras, roll out of my palm tree hammock and wade into the penthouse jacuzzi of the Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea. Later, return to the worst snowy weather Vancouver has had in ten years. 2009 begins with extreme contrast. February Suddenly found myself with two incredible job offers, neither of which I can accept. Mentally vow to try and not let that happen again. March CanWest canceled! Approached shortly after to take over by a massive amount of people. Flattered at the offer, didn't immediately accept. I needed some time to think about this. April Interviewed for a future job with the Vancouver Olympics that I had applied for last October. The interview covered a lot, past experience, future expectations, in a short amount of time. 24 hours later, I had the job. May I turned 22. Many people tell me it's a great thing that I know what I want at my age. I can't help but see people younger than me doing what I want and more. Is it weird to get inspiration from that? June Made a silly little video that currently has over 9,000 views. XD July I got to attend RvBTO again, meet tons ya'll and have another unbeatable weekend in Toronto. Later on I attended the world premiere of District 9 with Caleb and Flash2000 and had a crazy time at Comic-Con. 2009 was an amazing year for sci-fi films and I don't think any was more unexpectedly awesome than that first time assault from Neill Blomkamp. August I went on a roadtrip with my brother from Halifax to Kingston and saw Franz Ferdinand in Montreal. Take Me Out is definitely one of my top favourite songs from the past decade. September PAX 09 was fantastic. October Caught three of the best movies of the year in one fell swoop at VIFF: The Imaginarum of Dr.Parnassus, A Prophet, The White Ribbon. November Fell into a production black hole. Emerged tired, amazed and hungry for 2010. December Registered for PAX East. Saw Avatar. Every single time I hear or see mention of the technical side of Avatar I'm reminded of a review I read by Roger Ebert eight years ago for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (read the last two paragraphs). It's an exquisite movie, a marvel, an achievement. I hope it will act as a precursor for 3D films the way Toy Story acted as a precursor for Pixar movies. LINKED MEDIA
