Call of Duty is Ruining GamesFirst and foremost, the extremely large player base of many millions is being taken away from other great online games. This means that any game that isn't 'massively' successful is doomed to be unplayable online in about a month. Another point is that the success of Call of Duty's multiplayer has convinced other developers that they need a similar component in their game for it to be able to sell. This has happened with Bioshock and Assassin's Creed (the multiplayer isn't bad, just tacked on) already and I don't want it to happen any more. Another point is that the success of Call of Duty's multiplayer has convinced other developers that they need a similar component in their game for it to be able to sell. This has happened with Bioshock and Assassin's Creed (the multiplayer isn't bad, just tacked on) already and I don't want it to happen any more. One other thing that really upsets me though is the lack of good, local multiplayer. All the games I grew up with had some great local action that I could participate in with my friends and right now, those experiences are quite rare.
While all of this might not be Call of Duty's fault, it doesn't change the fact that it has changed the way game developers think and operate. I just pray that the series dies out with the next generation of consoles.
