...or perhaps an enema.

Post complaints/suggestions here.

This thread is for the Certified Technical Advisors to discuss forum affairs. If you are not a CTA, and you start posting in here, then you may be made fun of.

Also, don't post technical questions here. Start a new thread, or post in the Ask a CTA thread if you can't.

EVERY forum needs a cleanup.

I'm already sending threads from the RvB forum to Pixie, do you want me to start digging in here too?

Yea, a lot of these threads are lost causes...people made them, and after 4 months never got a response - i think those need to be locked, and if someone still needs advice they can re-make it, but chances are they've fouind the answer.

I still think a crack heaeerr... crack team of temp enforcement mods is the awnser. Put the forums under martial law till people can prove they deserve their freedoms back.(it might be harsh...but it'll work.)

I know from the 20+ forums that there cant be a mod JUST for the Technical forum, but boy it would sure be nice to have one in here to stop all the BS that happens.

I get flamed everytime i post something from the rules, Its just aggrivating to see the same OMG WINDOWS RULES threads or stuff like that.

A new mod that comes in here more than once every month would be nice.

I was saying something similar in the "Welcome MOD-gavino" thread, and I want to backpedal for a moment.

Dark54555, I think you are a good moderator. I honestly do.

That being said, however, if you find that the demands of real life prevent you from devoting an effective amount of time to moderation, perhaps it's time to delegate. There are several upstanding and responsible members who would make excellent candidates. Several are unemployed, which I happen to know frees up a lot of time.

Just a suggestion.

May i suggest you talk to the higher ups about a mod for the technical forum, we can provide honest suggestions as to whom we think would make excellent mods (not allowing nomination of ourselves)

I'm of the ideal that 1 Mod per forum would be ample.

As popular as these forums are, and as much as they're used, we need at least 1 mod per forum, perhaps two for the RvB forum since it is so commonly used.

There's my 2 cents.

i noticed alot of BS forums that always turn into a Mac Vs PC thread. Also, limewire threads shouldn't be tollerated, unless you are specifically asking for a legally shared file. I think the Moderater per forum would be nice to clean alot of shit out. I have only been here for a few months, and noticed a downhill slide in this forum. I think that the people that contribute most to the forum should be elected for Mod. Possibly we could have an election, like in the +20 Forum, and somehow mod the thread so people can't vote more than once. Or possibly have a online "fill in the dot" ballet
my 2 cents
so we have a total of 4cents so far

There was some talk a long time ago about a sort of "geek-modship" for the top technical posters - something that would give them an air of authority. That was bypassed when we came to the new site tho.

Now that Dark is giving some time here though I don't see any reason to change the structure of what we have - we just need some cleanup.

I have only been here for a few months, and noticed a downhill slide in this forum.

You should of seen it when the site was still phpBB (generic phpBB). When the amount of people who posted in Tech was enough to count on two hands. lol.

I have a list of folks I would want to mod Tech, several are obvious, some aren't.

Tech is the only reason I come to the forums anymore.

Heya midas.

The difference is that when it was the old phpBB forums it was more organized and easier to keep track of who was doing what and who was helping - now there are about a billion people posting all at once - it has turned into another basement and it's starting to piss me off. The good posts are getting mixed in with garbage posts.

ex:
Q) I have a problem with IE slowing down.

Me) Run adaware and/or spybot - clear your cookies and cache.
n00b) format c: /y

midas)FAQ!

I really did like the suggestion in the website request thread:

For your first month, instead of your homepage, you should be logged-in to the FAQ.

+5 Ditto, here and there! If only we could make that happen. Maybe there should be a written test on the FAQ before they're allowed to post. That would be sweet.

I think people honestly need help with their computers, but they don't know how to ask for it because they don't read the FAQ. So they post a useless thread with very few details and an inappropriate title. Then, they get so irritated by the flaming they receive that they never do provide enough details to get their problem solved and leave with a bitter taste in their mouths, still having never read the FAQ, or with any idea what they did to deserve such punishment.

If every such thread was locked, with not only a link to the FAQ, but a quote from the FAQ (since we all know they won't go to the FAQ simply because they're told), then this problem would diminish after a while.

Here's another idea. Every time someone asks you how to get an award, a title, or a star by his or her name, tell them that those things are for new members who memorize the FAQ for every forum within one week, and can quote any of them instantly when asked.

ok, i have an idea about the garbage posts...
what we could do is have like a mod point called -0 Garbage (or minus one, ppl make mistakes sometime). For one, it won't take from our mod points, and it will give a hint to the person that it is garbage. It would take a cetain amount of ppl to delete the post, and you can only vote once. (you could make the amount of mods public, or private) so everyone else doesn't mod it down just becuase someone else did. What do you guys think about that?

If that happens I'd like a special one that I would say -0 OMGWTF Are you serious? Garbage

or -0 Read the FAQ

But now I'm just thinking out loud.

I like th Garbage mod idea, but it would have to cost mod points . . . . just for the simple fact that that would be alot easier than keeping up with everythread and who has "garbaged it". Plus, if it cost points, it would regulate the amount of points given to such a cause. If they were free a group of assholes would search the forums deleting the threads of their enemies.

good point... but what about only us people that have like +20 Karma can do, you know the old timers. I can just see that the Garbage Mod would be abused (like everything else).
Ideas to prevent this???
