Is anyone looking forward to FFXII? Why or why not?
I personally can't wait. I think it looks like it will be pretty good. I love the story (more medevil-ish), the character designs, and the battle system doesn't seem half bad. If anything it will be better than X-2.
If you know nothing about FFXII then here are a few sites I commonly visit:
yea i am hoping it comes out soon it looks great eversince geez i think winter 03 when i heard the names i knew i had to use one so in socom 2 when it came out i made a name called vaan... i am soo waiting its going to be great i love the fact its going to the same type of world as 1-5 and 9... but i kinda wanna see a kool technology one like 7 again not like 8 tho ... plus i want dragon knoghts back
Kyaaa! The development is looking pretty damn good if you ask me. It looks like their "race" thingy is similar to the one I see now in WoW. Nice story and prologue. And the character designs -- Weee, I like the soft look that all the characters share.
Hell yeah i'm ready for it. I've been waiting for it ever since they did FFXI online. That was the worst idea i have ever seen and pissed me off more than anything else. They should have just called it Final Fantasy: Everquest edition.
haha that's great. Yeah, ever since I even heard of it I was waiting for it. The battle system is going to be cool. It's a mix of FFXI battle system with classic FF battle. The character designs are awesome, and I like that fact that they are using the same world as FFT and FFTA.
I think it'll be awesome...hopefully. The only problem I have is some of the character designs. The main guy looks like a mix of Zidane and Tidus, and I'm afraid that he might be just as annoying... :-/
From what I heard from people who played the recent demo at the Square Enix party, it kinda sucks, the gameplay is basically Final Fantasy 11 OFFLINE. Personally I think they're only releasing it cause they invested to much money on it and they need to churn something out, even if it's a failed product.... SE really has no real good GAME coming out cept for KH2. FF7 AC is still just a movie and not an actual game.
ehh despite the fact that every one inevitable will have a FF game they dislike in our hearts we enjoy the hell out of them while playing them and its only untill we beat a game and look back or listen to what others think we will create an opinion because honestly i think 12 will be just as good as all the rest.
I agree with NoTarget. There will always be FF games that people like and don't like. XII has just as good a chance to be as good as X or VII or any FF game. I happened to love the FFXI battle system and think it will be good in XII. If you've read any info on the battle system as well they have added alot to it and made it very deep. I believe it will be good.
I'm not trying to be a sourpuss here, I really want FF12 to be great, but some people like me dont like the FF11 system, and if we want a FF11 style gameplay, then we will get FF11,.For 12, I was hoping they would come up with somthing more original, now with staff changes and a delay release, its obvious the game is not going the way they wanted to, and they probably ran out of money and time to create the great FF12 game they wanted, now it all comes down to releasing a imperfect product, SE really has been falling apart and losing thier touch since th FF movie fiasco. I dont wanna be so pessmistic about it, as I am a Square fan myself, but they now come to a point where their only decent game that is coming out soon is KH2, FF12 really doenst have too much info interms of gameplay, and the demo failed to impress most fans in Japan at the SE party, not some, but MOST.
Now they rely heavily on fan service, hence all the FF7 stuff that is coming out soon. Im excited for AC, but SE obviusly is using fan service such as FF7 and X-2 to get more money and funding for other future projects, So Im hoping after FF7 AC does well and KH2, and churhing out FF12, SE will start creating great classics again like Chrono Trigger and Xenogears. Instead of FF12 which so far fails to impress of hype evne the hardcore Japanese fans who played the demo.
I thought they started falling apart more with the merger between them and Enix... that's when I started noticing the downhill fall anyway. I still have some faith in them with XII, if that's not good I'll give them till XIII. If that's not good then I will have lost my faith. Until then I can just hope that XII will be good. And from what I've seen, it will be (though I haven't played the demo so I can't counter that most japanese didn't like it).
The demo was also played by some lucky USA fans who went to the SE party, they weren't too impressed either, and they were the ones that gave us all the demo impressions there is, every detail that i in the demo. From what I have seen of the screenshots and what I have heard from the players, I'm not too impressed, I just hope at least the story is good, that might give me an incentive to buy XII.
Just to point out, it really was not a merger. Enix did basically buy out Square, but Square does have a valuable name brand despite the financial problems they had, which was mainly the result of them having so many high budget projects at once that they were skating on thin ice if one didn't do at least decently (FF Movie, which was a decent movie in its own right, but it didn't have Cloud, so naturally it just had to suck no matter what).
As far as I've seen, every FF has gotten a wave a bad publicity on the fan base because it wasn't FFVII. They decided to go in a deeper direction then the previous games, so it might be a good idea to wait and see before saying it sucks or not. The deeper a game is, the worse it comes off in demos because simply put you need to build up to the good stuff and a demo does not have the time to do that. Odds are that FFXII will not be as popular as the other games because from the sounds of it, it will take more effort to keep track of what is going on in a fight, rather than the old FF7 idea of just hold down the button and Attack every round, or when facing bosses use Knights of the Round every time you can.
rather than the old FF7 idea of just hold down the button and Attack every round, or when facing bosses use Knights of the Round every time you can.
Awwww.... i actually like doing that....
No really...you have a good point. Everyone seems to compare all the games to FF7, just because it revolutionized final fantasy graphics from all things previous. My personal was FF9 because it dropped back to an older style while retaining the newer graphics. I know that the characters were slightly annoying (also a Kendal thread), but ultimately i had never gotten into a game quite like i got into it. The newer final fantasy games are testing the cunning and inteligence of the gamers. With that in mind, a "deeper" game would probably be more appealing to the fan base.
I agree with KairiLee, but I'm trying to keep a positive outlook. There has been a lot of dependancy on fan service in the previous years. I'm also wary on the fact that the release of FFXII follows Advent Children. This hype could be the key of their success or failure in future games. Then again, there has been a lot of pressue on them to outdo their previous games. Final Fantasy 7 still reigns supreme for the majority of the fan base and although there are mixed feelings towards the rest, FF8 and FF10 (and X-2) was well loved by most Japanese people. I just don't like the fact that they have been mostly focusing on making newer graphic innovations than a focus on the story. The new characters could look like a walking, talking person, but if the story is lame, I'm not going to put up with it.
There are a lot of people who are comparing this upcoming FF with the previous XI (Online) for their similar battle systems. I don't have an opinion to say about this because I like to stray away from MMORPGs (since WoW sucks ... the soul out of you. I <3 WoW, but I hate how my friends are now living in Azeroth instead of reality most of the time)), but I'm curious to see how it all plays out.
I just want a better story really. That's all I ask for. I don't want a formulaic story of "Guy meets Girl" sprinkled with fantasy. I want a fantasy game that if it happens to have a "Guy meets Girl" story, good. If not, it's still OK. I hate how every game in FF after 7 turned into a huge soap opera marathon.
the new style for 12 is similar to 11 however it isnt the exact same because you are now controlling a team i would thik it seems a lil like a mix of legend of mana and and 11 plus you can controll summons and a charecter now also similar to x which i think was a cool idea as well instead of it being just a single attack... but i hear some reviews its good and it we can only wait till it comes out to judge it.
Yeah, most final fantasy games are turning into soap operas. I hope that with XII the story is abit more war like rather than love. It will still need that love element to make you feel for the characters abit more, but I hope they don't make the whole game about it. From what I've seen of the story it's alot of war between countries in Ivalice.
To respond to sylokat (re: "Newer FF games are testing the cunning and inteligence of the gamers"): I would love to get a FF game that goes back to this. The last time I was baffled in FF was FF3 with that one wizard whose magic was seemingly random. Every tme you casted a magic attack, it seemed as if he would absorb everything but one; actually, you had to attack him with the current magic he was casting as well. (eg. If he casts Thunder, you have to cast Thunder in order to inflict damage.) It took me a good while until I understood what was going on.
Bring back the trickery! Bring back the cunning! Bring back the intelligence in these games! I am more than a button-masher!
I have to say even the FF battle systems are getting bit old, just pure button mashing. Of course FF12 is gonna be very different, but as I said before, reports and demo impressions says its basically FF11 offline, so in other words its yet ANOTHER rehash. I think SE needs to find a way to blend old and new refreshing elements together.
I'm playing Grandia 3 right now, Japanese versions, and I found it more fun than FFX, which was button mashing, dull and tedious to play, not to mention linear.
I hope FF12 has at least a good story, seeing that most of the staff worked on Vagrant and Tactics universe, it probbaly will have the same style of story, instead of all soaps we've been getting, FF8 IMO had the worse story out of the playstation 1 and 2 era... Pity since it has great looking graphics and characters...
Everyone hopes it has a good story. And everyone hope it will be the "best final fantasy, ev-er n.n"
But lets have a reality check for all those people thinking this. Just because its a game series doesn't mean that each one will be better than the previous. The graphics look like they are going to be kickass, but someone will find something to complain about them, saying stuff like "well, they could have been better" or "they needed more here" or "that cutscene was useless."
The problem that SE has is kinda like trying to schedule a life-altering event for a mass of people. No matter what they do, someone is going to have a problem.
I personally plan on buying it, i'm saving up my loose change right now with high hopes. Even if the game sucks, i'll buy it. That way, i still have bragging rights to my friends that i've beat it.
To sylokat: Don't mistake that hoping for a better story is the same thing as hoping that each FF will outdo the previous. I think most people understand that each game in the series are separate entities to each other that has some characteristics (or characters) -- Oscar (green tentacle monster), magic, Biggs and Wedge, etc -- that are continuious throughout every one. . People always compare each FF to each other because their recent storylines are incredibly lacking.
I think your argument is targeted mostly to the people with high hopes that it will be the "best final fantasy ever" and shouldn't be grouped with those who are hoping for a better story. In every FF, (with the exception of FF2 and FF3/FF6 because I think those are the best stories ever created) there are pros and cons for the execution of the story and the storylines have been affected by the reactions of the fans.
I just don't want another soap opera. Please, SE, if I wanted to watch another functionally retarded couple get together, I'd watch every Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan movie instead of playing VGs.
i think you hit the argument on the head. I am gearing it toward those who are...how shall we say...naive about all the games. And you are totally right about the whole better story vs. outdoing.
*sarcastically* What, you don't want a Final Fantay: Young and the Restless edition?!? Thats blasphemy!
Anyway, yeah, as long as I get a story and not a soap opera then I'll be happy with 12. Like I said, I want a war story, and not some lame love story. The Nintendo and Super Nintendo era FF games focused on magic and war, and I wish they would return to those roots abit more (like FF9, which I loved even though it had abit of a soap opera feel, but not as much as recent).
