I have been instructed to make a firearms thread in this forum. Please keep it civil, educated, and not retarded. I don't want to see any desert eagles unless you are talking about target shooting or hunting. Please give experiences if you go shooting. What you like and dislike. Don't just make this a "LAWL GLOCK 7 ROX" thread please. Also you are free to ask questions about something, as long as it is not too retarded (EX. “MASTER CHIEF LIKES SHOTGUNS, HOW ARE THEY?â€)
Repost from the last one, bolt action rifles that I feel are worth special notation.
Bolt Action:
Spanish FR8 7.62nato mauser
Lightweight and handy little carbine. Built as a training and supplemental long arm for the Spanish army and civil guard.
Swiss K31 7.5x55mm Schmidt-Rubin
Pinicle of bolt action battle rifles. Straight pull bolt is fast and smooth as glass. More accurate then most modern firarms.
Cooper Arms Phoenix
Comes in most loadings. They are .05 MOA test shot at 25 yards off sand bags.
If you want to join a good firearm forum, feel free to poke around or join Sig Forum. Even though the focus is on SIG firearms, the members talk about everything from building AK clones to Glocks. It's a no-nonsense forum, and you will be banned if you go over the line. The mods and admins rule with an iron fist, however they only do it if you deserve it. It's an adult environment much unlike most of this forum. It's much better then other gun forums out there like AR-15.com (they can be pretty dickish), HK-pro (you will get banned if you talk about anything but HK, and modern HK's sucks anyways), or Glock Talk (their own brand of special).
I said modern. HK no longer makes the G3, and has cut back on their whole line of roller-locking firearms. I am talking about their polymer frame/receiverd guns like the SL8 series, G36, UMP, USP, P2000, P3000 line. The G3 is one fine beast. I will probably get a JLD PTR-91 clone some time in the future.
Even though the FAL has the G3 beat in actual battle usage (less dust/sand/dirt sensitive, faster loading) every G3 I have shouldered has fit me like a glove.
It is built by an ex-areospace contractor, and is top notch. Tell him you saw it on Ar-15.com for $89.
Then all you need is a rifle kit.
Very good company. The rifle I am probably going to build for my mom (M4 profile lightweight barrel A2 upper) is looking at just about $600. The same thing from Bushmaster, or god forbid Colt is $900 to $1,500.
Ok, now all i need is some surplus cash flow. Ive got a buddy who is a gunsmith, with his help i should become rather proficient. I dont forsee having any real money for atleast another year though. Ill be forced to target practice with my Marlin until then. Thanks for the info Vosh.
I will be leaving to go to the Colorado Shool of Trades wich is one of the top Gunsmithing schools in the world so hopefully I will be able to work on some of the more historical/military guns. One of the requirements is to build a custom bolt ation rifle. I will have to make my own parts and tools in before I can make it. I know that I will have learn a lot more about guns and have fun while I am ther.
My boyfriend has the Yogoslavic SKS that was put together like a sniper rifle. It has a lighter fiberglass stock, a scope, and a flash supresser that really cuts down on noise and flash output. It's a nice rifle and looks damn deadly to anyone not use to it. It had little kick back, so little in fact that my little 5'3 body can handle it. It's dead accurate at 100 meters. Overall one of my favorite rifles for target practice. Just powerful enough for me to handle and control, and a definite improvement from a .22.
What is a decent rifle to start out with? I would like to get into target shooting and practice marksmanship (not sure of the correct terms, sorry). I guess I'm looking for something not too expensive but not so cheap as to be a piece of crap.
If the only thing you want is target practice, get a good .22lr in semi-auto or bolt action. Go to a gun store and have an employee find what fits you best. One of the most prevalent .22lr semi-autos is the Ruger 10/22. They can be had in a trillion variations, everything from a stock $200 model, to a MG-42 replica, to a $2,000+ match rifle. .22lr is under $10 for a brick of 500 rounds last time I checked.
You're terrifying me. LMFAO, you sound exactly like my boyfriend Tony. He's a gun fanatic. Every year he buys one or two. You two would probably get along famously. ( read your post to him....and now he won't shut up..thanks )
As far as the post I'm responding too. I bought Tony a .22 to replace the one he had stolen from him. Wal-Mart. Remington. $100-110. Even came with a five round magazine. He only had misfires with old ammunition. Hasn't been a problem out of the thing otherwise. We have no squirrels left.
Vosh, I am being asked to relay this message to you as he's drunk and can't type right now.
"I agree with you on the bubba thing. I have an Ishapore Enfield and the only thing I've done to it is a synthetic stock and a scout scope mount. I already have the scope, I just need to get the rings. After that? I'm a-headin to the range."
M1903 Springfield, fired one once. Gotta love the classics.
My grandfather has got a .22 a lot like thins one. He got it when he was 16, he's 60 now. It was the first gun I ever fired.
And finally, the McMillan Tac-50. The .50 cal rifle used by the Canadian millitairy. One of the most accurate rifles you can come across. Never fired one, but I hope to eventually. Truly a thing of beauty.
It'll be tomorrow before I can send anything. I'm plastered right now. That and if I fucked with his shit without prior allowance I would eat a bullet from that specific rifle. Eithre waht......um....either way even....yeah...tomorrow.
Hey, did anyone here see that Mythbuster's episode where they shot various guns at an angle into a tank of water/swimming pool to see if there was any truth in the myth of swimming under water could protect a person from bullets being shot at him/her? The myth turned out to be true - all the bullets they fired into the swimming pool - ranging from pistols to rifles (including a really big rifle that I guess is used to shoot through armour) - shattered within a few feet of travelling through water.
Yes so. Was that the test where they fired into a tall, water tank? They redid the test using a swimming pool to shoot into when the shotgun blast broke their water tank. In the whole test, non of the bullets touched the floor of the pool intact. The last gun they fired was a massive rifle that could have punched through concrete walls (the splash of the bullet hitting the water was high enough to splash against the swimming pool's ceilling - about forty feet high) - the bullet shattered like the rest and the ballistics gel they used was unmarked.
Yeah, I saw that episode, but only the last few minutes of the test. What happened to the .50 sniper round? It look like it just ripped itself to pieces.
