AKs are what you give to conscripted peasants that aren't interested in shooting, scared of the rifle, or are going to let allah aim for them no matter what and how much training you give them. Quantity is a quality of it's own, or something like that. Whatever that commie bastard said.

For less than $100, you can't go wrong; just make sure you hand pick a good one (google search on how to find a good one).

In reply to Biolith, #4078:

Oddly enough, I have never had a sticky bolt on mine... then again, I've never used anything but my whole hand... giggidy

funniest quote about Mosin's I've heard was also true advise: "You gotta slap that bolt like a Russian mail-order bride!"

Something I've noticed about people who shoot Mosin-Nagants at indoor ranges: the 'one-shot-per-second' rule is taken as a challenge.

Pfft. There is no .300 Mag. Or .338 Lapua. There is only 7.62x54R.

Indeed. I'm hoping that will be possible late this summer when Remington opens sales of the M24s up to Category II buyers.

Don't hold your breath on that one Hav. You know practically every swingin' dick on deck that qualifies is going to be trying to snag one of those.

I'm one of the swinging dicks. I can't believe that there are enough sniper-qualified active duty guys out there with $3500 sitting in savings to pick one up. On the other hand, I'll be several months into a combat tour with a bit of green saved up.

Ahhhhh yes. Here we are folks, one of the most recognized traits of the occifer class. Self delusion.

There may NOT be a whole lot of Cat I types around... There ARE likely a hell of a lot of Cat IIs. What makes you think that YOU are going to be at the top of the stack? Particularly when you ARE on that combat tour and are less likely to be able to react to the change in condition, or arrange the details of the purchase.

Don't get me wrong Hav. I hope you get one..... Well... At least as much as I hope to see ANY occifer with a firearm. I'm just saying don't bet the farm that you're going to be on the short list. I know how it breaks your little heart and gets you all sniffly when you don't get the toys you want.

Don't worry, it warms my heart to piss on other men's dreams and to crush their spirit. Thankfully, there's plenty of that to be done.

I love the guys doing the combat roll down the hill and then firing at a carboard tank with an AK.

You're a paratrooper Hav. Don't you mean piss on YOURSELF when those misaligned straps crush your nuts?

Unless your harness shifts on the bird (and it will) and the opening shock crushes your nuts; followed by the looooooooooong slow burn on the rest of the trip down.

Then you pee a little blood.

In reply to DumpsterMutt, #4102:

I must say, opening shock is the only time I've ever been thankful to have my nuts crushed--every single time. When the legstraps have been misrouted about the jumper's adjustable equipment bundle, it also somehow changes that 10-15 second fall into one that lasts approximately an hour. Weird.

I do actually know of a guy who lost a nut on a jump. Ruptured that bad Larry. "Blood on the risers" indeed.

Yet another reason jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is an unnatural act. Eating concertina wire and pissing napalm on the other hand..

Doesn't DQ my comment, really. When has ANYONE ridden in a 100% aircraft?
