The 'assholes' refers to the people who act as humanitarians just to increase their popularity or improve their public image or who are hypocritical in their actions after preaching to everyone else.
Ahhh I see why they'd be 'assholes' if they were hypocritical...but why would being humanitarian increase their public image? is the public really considered that malleable?
It achieved a lot (both times, although the exact extent is questionable). However, how many of the acts originaly signed up because they needed the free publicity of an international broadcast, or the exposure that the event could give them to new markets and demographics?
I dont know, but I couldnt care less with what celebrities did with their money. I dont think giving it away to every one makes them good...
And I assume this was a BBC run program, Great Britons, as the BBC are always trying to be nice and politically correct and welcoming and accepting and all that bull.
