I'm surprised know one has made this thread yet...well out of the comic geeks that visit the forum anyway.
Zak Penn Writing The Avengers Source: Marvel Entertainment August 10, 2006
The Marvel Studios Overview Presentation--other than giving a great look at how their films are made and what they have in the works--reveals that Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2: X-Men United) is writing the screenplay for the big screen adaptation of The Avengers.
Marvel describes the property as follows: "The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful super-hero team in the world."

Zak Penn on Avengers and Hulk Source: CHUD August 11, 2006
CHUD got a chance to talk to The Avengers and The Incredible Hulk screenwriter Zak Penn, who revealed a bit more on both. Here's a clip:
"No question the thing that it inspired me was the Ultimates run," Zak told me. "I thought it was brilliant, cinematic, and made me realize that a super hero team didn't have to be goofy. There has been a lot of discussion about whether it will be live action or a next-gen big budget CGI thing, but we've tabled it for awhile while I write the Hulk. I imagine we will make all these decisions next year."

It will probably be a bit before we see the movie happen. But I really hope they make it live action. If they are going to take the time to introduce the Avengers in their solo movies first and they have the "Ultimate Avengers" movie out on dvd animated, making a cgi/animated Avengers movie would seem really pointless to me.
As to who will be on the team. They had said previously it was no coinsidence that the characters in movie development happened to be Avengers. My money is saying Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and then, Giant-Man/Ant-Man (Henry Pym and Scott Lang will both be in Ant-Man), Hawkeye and possibly Hulk and Wasp.
We're pretty much garenteed to get the three in this. Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man (before Civil War they're the best of Super hero friends lol)
Looking forward to this...with the exception of Penn penning it. I hope he's working with a group of writers and not writing it himself.
I wish I got into comics early on, then I would be more excited, but for some reason I'm already really excited. So either, it's the kinda of excited like right before a crash on nascar, or the kind of excited being 3 miles out from a shuttle launch. Of which I have done both and they feel similar. Sorry if the post sounds random, I just have mixed feelings about this, I hope the film is going to be good, hopefully they don't get Brett Ratner to direct. *Shutters*
i really hope this is live-action. it seems like a cop-out if it's cgi, but at the same time, live-action would be a little over-barring. fuck it, i still want live-action. especially if they can sign the people who play those roles to spin-offs. like, whoever plays thor, gets his own thor movie. that'd rock. continuity heaven.
let's not be to harsh here, let's look at what zak has done:
the good: Fantastic Four X2 Behind Enemy Lines Last Action Hero
the bad: Elektra Inspector Gadget
the meh: The Incredible Hulk X-Men: The Last Stand
gadget sucked and so did elektra, common knowledge. we cant really judge incredible hulk yet, so thats a meh, and x3, well, that's in the eye of the beholder. personally, i could've swung that to the good side.
we all know x2 rocked our faces off, and ff is generally accepted as good. behind enemy lines was pretty good as well. and if you didn't like last action hero, then fuck you.
overall, he's not that terrible, you never know. there's hope still.
Fantastic four was horrible. X2 was mediocre, X3 sucked hard, Behind Enemy Lines was mediocre, and he wrote the story for Last Action Hero. Not the screenplay. Shane Black and David Arnott wrote the screenplay. And Shane Black is a fucking god. Zak Penn had nothing to do with the sucess of that movie.
A good live action Avengers would cost hundreds of millions to pull off properly. And they darn well better go the Ultimates route........
I'm anxious to see how Favreau pulls off Iron Man. I think the success/failure of Iron Man could have a major impact on an Avengers movie.
IF.......IF they decide to go CG, I would hope it would be on a Final Fantasy:Spirits Within level of quality or better......such as the trailer for Ultimate Alliance. That would be sweet.
Dude, when was the last time a comic book was adapted well and still remained interesting? Yes, FF was bad, none of the X-Men movies have been close to the comics, Captain America, Daredevil, Elektra, and I am pretty sure Punisher were changed quite a bit, Superman Returns was too freakin' long... They sacrifice some things to make the movie doable.
Personally, I would love to see the Avengers done true to the comics, but in all honesty, I know Captain America will be in it, and I would not be surprised if Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Hawkeye showed up.
X2, Spider-Man 1 and 2, Batman Begins, Sin City and Punisher were all great. Daredevil, X2, Superman Returns, Blade 1-3, and FF were all good. X3, Elektra, Catwoman, and Hulk score between Let-Down to Unwatchable.
Thing with FF is that rarely is the book something I like. It's a little kiddie and it always should be. And besides a fucked up Doom it was good.
I don't care if Avengers is CG or Live Action. If it's CG we get the bonus of the story being able to do anything like the comic. Because it's infinitly cheaper to do bigger action battles in animation than in live action. A edgy serious Avenger CG movie would own. Ultimate Avengers is for kids and it feels like it but a CG Avengers with the seriousness of a live action movie would be great!
I hope they use Quicksliver and Wanda, hell I waiting through 3 X-Men movies to see my favorite twins in a movie and got nothing of their criminal days before the Avengers. I better damn well see them in an Avenger movie!
Well these were done after doing research for what others think.
I couldn't find crap for Thor. But that guys is apparently a really good actor. and he is 6'4''. Plus he played Thor is Adventures In Babysitting. So I figured why not.
Dominic Purcell was actually asked about his invovment about rumors that he would be Hulk. His responce pretty much sounded like he was at least in talks. That link is on SHH! and in the comic movie thread under my big ass 4-5 comic movie news post.
