Well, I decided to watch the pilot of this show, and after 5 minutes, thought about turning it off. It opened like a Dr. Seuss book on acid, with a narrator and all. But fortunately, they got the backstory out of the way quickly, and went right into the first story, which was interesting, and funny. Chi McBride is great as the 'sidekick', I guess you'd call him. Ned and Charlotte(Chuck), have real chemistry for people who haven't seen each other in about 20 years. But I wonder how long they can keep a love story going where no love can ever happen? But I'll tune in next week.
I liked these first two episodes. I wouldn't say I'm hooked though. The narration reminds me a lot of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is actually a big plus. I like the concept of bringing people back to life, and all the limits with it. The show has potential, I just hope it does do like a lot of ABC shows.
Wow, such an inventive show. I really want the first season DVD so I can figure out who they blew (i.e. how cheap their cool sets really are) to keep the production value so consistent.
This is the most witty and charming show to grace the television in years. Ever since the pilot I've been hooked.
I can definitely see why people don't enjoy it; it's definitely not generic enetertainment that the "American" audiences are used to. The writing is brilliant though, and acting/directing only caters to said great writing. As I said, I feel this is probably the best television series I've seen for a long time.
By the way, I think the Halloween episode is the best since the pilot... Quite well done.
So, due to the writer strike, I just heard from a friend that we are only getting 9 episodes till this whole nasty business is done. I will be in a corner weeping if anyone needs me.
I heard that PD was cancelled due to the strike. Please, please someone tell me that this was merely a rumour. As I said before, Pushing Daisies is by far the best show in years.
Sorry for the double post, but I was reading on Wikipedia and it says that 9 episodes have been written and produced, but it says nothing about the show being canceled, so I think its safe.
In reply to ElWaldorf, #16: yes the writer strike thing is obnoxious. i'm sure the writers for these shows don't get paid POORLY!
A typical sitcom nets a writer $4,000. An hour-long is $7,000. A two hour is $11,000.
So no, they don't get paid properly.
Can you imagine having to live on $4,000 for a year if you don't get extra work? Plus, your episode will only be rerun ONCE, and the new contract that the writers have doesn't even pay internet download residuals until 2010.
