He's decent at characters, and his real strong suit is dialog
Sorry, but I burst out laughing at that part. Watch Airbender, The Happening, Lady In The Water, and Signs.* Nice little nuggets of horrible dialogue in all of those. Unbreakable was ok.

I don't think his character deaths have been unnecessary, he always has a reason for them, but I'm concerned he's getting into the M. Night territory where everything M. Night had to be IT'S A TWIST and now everything Joss does has to be AND THEN SOMEONE DIES.
Well, apparently not. I was reading an interview today with Marvel President Kevin Feige, and apparently the character death was his idea. And it was because JJ Abrams killed Spock's mom in Star Trek.
One of the original Avengers in the 1960s comic books was Ant Man, a character given to Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead) to develop. Unfortunately, Wright was slow to deliver.
"Edgar's still working on that project, and it's closer than ever," says Feige. "But it's been eight years we've been working with him, and we finally decided we couldn't keep putting more people in. If Ant Man had come out four years ago, it would certainly have been part of the puzzle."
Ant Man and his girlfriend the Wasp remain on the drawing board as future Avengers characters.

I actually agree with you about Jon Snow. A lot of my friends are into his actor, and I'm really not that impressed. I love Jon in the books, I'm disappointed in the actor so far. On the other hand I wasn't that into Robb as a character and I really like his actor.
I feel sort of the same way about Sansa Stark. In the book I always found her to be rather boring but for some reason every time she's on screen I'm just transfixed by the level of suffering that is held just below the surface by the actress. Something about her is just so hauntingly beautiful, tragic and symbolic...like we're literally watching the death of childhood innocence as it faces the real world. She just fascinates me. Otherwise Arya is spot on and my favorite character in both the book and the show
I like Sansa in the books, besides Clash of Kings. In Game of Thrones, very little happened around her. But with Clash of Kings, she is forced into a situation that is entirely possible for some people: Being forced into a marriage with the biggest dick in the universe.

Sansa grew on me. I didn't like her initially but that was because I got sick of her swooning over Joffrey pretty fast, since it was apparent to everyone but her that Joffrey is Kid Hitler. Kitler, if you will. But as time went by and she wised up, I grew to sympathise with her and looked forward to her chapters.
Although to be fair, I looked forward to her chapters because that was when we got to see the Hound. Sandor Clegane, that's my favourite character. He's awesome, and I feel like he's been underused in the show. I took issue with Littlefinger telling Sansa his backstory, since that was a defining moment in the books for his character, the way he utterly terrified Sansa by being a monster yet telling a story that made him sympathetic. That was when I first took notice of him as an actual character, and the show clipped it.
My biggest problem with the Hound in the show, though, is something that's been brought to my attention by CA, a guy at work who watches it. CA has not read the books, only seen the show, so when we discuss things I'll toss out changes and get him thinking. When I mentioned the Hound isn't as bad as the bastard he seems to be, CA got confused. The show, apparently, has done a piss poor job of protraying the Hound as a bastard. CA was under the impression that he was an OK guy right from the start, killing the butcher's boy notwithstanding. The defining moment of the Hound's character, for CA, was when he saved Tyrell from his brother Gregor, the Mountain. When he mentioned it I went back and he's right, the Hound isn't portrayed with much negativity at all, which is disappointing.
