It really was. It was ridiculous in the trailers. It was a little cheesy in the movie, but it did actually fit.

Well no one stays dead in the Marvel world, but this isn't the comic world. If they keep bringing people back in movies, any death that happens will lose it's emotional impact since they'll just assume they'll be back. Of course that's from experience here, lol, since whenever someone dies in the comics I'm like yeah whatever see you in a few months. In that case, I'd prefer to have Coulson's death stick. Bucky I don't mind coming back because I think they set up his rez well and the Winter Soldier is a major storyline worth telling.

Likewise. While I'm sad to see Coulson go, I would much rather have him stay dead, because that at least makes that mean something.

There were several, the "Gentlemen, what are you prepared to do?" bit comes to mind. I also thought the shot of Thor standing in the foreground with Cap and Widow at the table was cheesy looking but fit much better once you knew what they were doing, not just striking a dramatic pose.

Side note: I just realized that when we first see Widow in the movie and she beats the hell out of those Russians, she's kicking ass with eight legs (well, two arms anyway). I like it.

MOTHERFUCKER
“The Avengers” has just grossed a staggering $200.3-million in its domestic debut, according to studio estimates — the biggest debut ever by such a wide margin, even the team’s Hawkeye would have to admire how massively the Disney/Marvel film over-shot expectations. Final studio numbers are expected Monday.

Coulson isn't the only one to get impaled by Loki's spear: immediately upon showing up he impales at least two people in his first fight.

Spoiler text while you are on a phone equals sad.

I'm going to assume we are talking about Coulson's death. He's as dead as Cyclops and Harvey Dent. It was not cheap. It was very well done and made Tony's character arc possible. Important to plot, emotional, and it means something to other characters throughout the movie? Sounds like a well done death. What's to complain about?

Hilariously I won't be able to read any spoiler text reply, but rest assured knowing that my opinion is as inflexible as it is correct.

I find that on my Android I can actually "copy" the text that is greyed out and paste it into the reply window to read it. Granted, it's annoying if there is a lot of posts with walls of grey so that's a lot of copy/paste, but it works.

I don't think anyone was debating the merits of the event. The most recent topic was whether or not it was real.

Freaking hell, this actually pissed me off... when I left the theater after the very end of the credits people were asking "wait there was more, what did I miss" and both cmrs and staff were saying "they went to a Subway"... a subway? A SUBWAY? How the hell did they miss the fact that not only was that NOT a subway, but they were eating Falafels!

Reading A Storm of Swords. I'm on page 723. An event happened when I was reading that turned me off on reading farther... This series is hardcore. Red Wedding indeed.

For those that don't know I'm talking about the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series... Or umm Game of Thrones 3 I guess.

That's funny, because as we left the theater I turned to my friend and said, "Did we ever figure out what exactly schwarma was?" and he said. "Sandwiches, apparently."

Shawarma

In reply to datalaughing, #164018:

Okay, so it's more like a Kebab or Gyro, but really, those and Falafel's are pretty much the same thing... just depends on the meat, really.

I'm going to go with "for real" myself re: the Coulson situation.

I'm seeing it again in a few hours.

So did anyone else like the weird sort of relationship that developed between Stark and Banner? I didn't really expect it, but it totally makes sense. They're the geniuses of the group, the only ones who have any idea what the hell the other guy is talking about. Then at the end they drive off together. I'm hoping Bruce is gonna take him up on the whole coming to hang out at Stark Tower thing. I'd love to see him pop up in the background during Iron Man 3. "Hey, big green, how's it goin'?" As Tony walks by.

For that matter, what did everyone think of the new Banner? It was one of the biggest things people talked about coming up on the movie, and since it came out I haven't heard many people saying anything one way or the other. Personally, I loved him. Chelsea mentioned in her review of Hulk that Ed Norton, while cool, never felt like the geeky, put-upon, even tortured guy that I associate with Banner. He always felt more like a badass action hero trying to stay on the low-down and not get into anything just yet. I think Ruffalo really has a whole other (and in my opinion more appropriate) slant on the character. I was surprised at just how good I thought he was in the part.

I LOVED that connection and it made perfect sense to me.

And I have to say I absolutely adored Ruffalo. You brought up my commentary on Norton and in my Avengers review I said this was more what I envisioned. And it was. Joss wrote him well and Ruffalo had that lovely understated energy that worked so well for Banner. I personally give two thumbs up.

Yeah I do wonder if we'll get some cameos in the movies now. I think Banner in Iron Man would be great and even make sense if you Tony wanted to work through an intellectual problem with another genius.

As to Ruffalo, I thought he nailed it. I didn't miss Norton at all and I think that's the reason it hasn't been talked about much. He fit into this world and role perfectly.
