Just saw it tonight and wow, A+. Joss and Drew definitely nailed it. Funny, Slightly scary and one of the best third acts in a movie iv'e seen in a long time
I love Marty's bong
I really hope this movie makes a profit because it really really deserves it.
So just got back from CITW; genius title screen placement. I should say that there were only five other people in the place and their frequent lack of reactions led me to believe they weren't too familiar with Whedon's body of work. Hemsworth kept being awesome. I kept expecting him to bite it earlier but then when he starts pontificating and you just know exactly what is about to happen, you're just waiting to see how horrific it will be. Then the scholar getting it through the neck made me jump. When the fool got stabbed off frame the first though I had was "No body no death", but then as it proceeded I assumed Hemsworth must have seen the body as they were fleeing or something. Then the second half comes and I had to wonder why a place like this would install a self-destruct button which the purge switch essentially was. Still, I said "Meh" and proceeded to enjoy the gore porn. As creepy as the clown was, that rotor blade robot of doom sent chills up and down my spine. Then Amy Acker got yanked by a massive tentacle after buddy boy finally saw his merman up close and personal and Patience saves the day from Sigourney "sexy evil queen bitch" Weaver and backstabbity and weed is the downfall of humanity with a giant fist right up the ass. I can't wait to see the blooper reel. Maybe cthulhu and dragon will bring a shibboleth for a cameo.
Some notable quotes: "If maintenance had any creativity they wouldn't be in maintenance. " "He had the conch right there in his hands! Just once in this job I want to see a merman!" And then... "Aww c'mon!" "Good zombie hand!" "...and she will live forever in this happy frog! Yaaaay"
Oh thank God. Other people that are in love with this movie. =)
Normally I don't do horror movies, but this is just so perfect that I saw it twice and was tempted to go for a third. Can't wait for it to come out on DVD. =D But am I the only one that will never look at unicorns the same way?
Just watched this movie. Freaking awesome as I didn't expect to see what I saw. Definitely would have been able to guess what was going to happen towards the end
My only problem with this movie is that I wasn't sure where to draw the line between comedy and horror. This is obviously full of Whedon humor. Every time they cut over to the lab, the humor was strong during those scenes and normally those scenes occur after some horrific moment, which leaves me wondering "If I laugh, does this make me evil?"
Not gonna lie, I didn't expect how this movie turned out, it came out 10 times better then I expected. I thought it was gonna be a full on horror movie, but its Joss Whedon, I should of known he would have added twists and confusion. I still could not stop laughing at the Unicorn seen, all he had to do was jump out the damn way XD.
I have a question regarding the movie. May be spoilerish so i'll cover it up. But when the big bad at the end is explaining the archetypes that each character was supposed to fill, does that just apply only to America's sacrifice? Because how would any of those archetypes be used in Japan's sacrifice attempt? considering they were all children.
