I just finished listening to episode 127 in which you guys waxed poetic about what the next big family project that gets everyone legitimately excited would be. Well here's my idea:
CBM Family website.
I think we have a tremendous amount of talent in this group we've willed into existence, but it's spread out all over the Internet. We're all relatively well-spoken and/or written, and between us, we've probably read every book, played every game, and watched every movie that's relevant to geek culture, and ranted and raved in the thread about it. Why not make those rants and journals into reviews? Why not use our worldwide reach to cover conventions and things of the like? As much as I've enjoyed this site over the years and I'm grateful it brought us together, the only reason I still come here is to shoot the shit with you guys. If we were collectively gathered elsewhere, I probably wouldn't come here at all.
Of course it would take more planning, committment, and effort than maybe anyone wants to give, and I realize some of you guys are more invested in other niches of the RT community. But like I said, it's just my idea and it excites me. If no one else feels the same, then I suppose it's back to the drawing board.
It's a good idea and you're right, we do have the talent, but as mentioned in the ep, the problem is the drive. We need the motivation first up. Coaxing into this would be a lot harder.
So there's a bit of interest, cool. I'll put some more thought into it, since my job has been fairly uneventful thus far and looks to remain that way for the better part of the coming month.
I think anytime people try to collaborate on something, there will always be some amount of conflict. But I'm not really interested in telling people what they can and can't do or post as long as it isn't intentionally inflammatory towards each other. I see website itself would be more of a collection than a collaboration, a central hub for archiving SH and Retcast and Deadline news and things of the like. I haven't given it much thought beyond that.
Posting this with a little more detail in my journal, but let this post be the discussion hub.
I have two weeks off from school, so I thought about doing something like a Retcast Lightning Round. Basically, over the next two weeks I hope to record and release at least four new episodes.
We could do more episodes than four, but if we aim for a smaller number, it's more likely I can stick to that goal. If, however, I get a whole lot of support, I'm up to record literally as many episodes as I'm able.
Two things I need from you guys: 1. Obviously people need to join me on the show, so let me know if you're interested and when you're free. 2. A fuckton of email questions and topics, since we'll be recording over a short period of time we don't want to keep rehashing the same shit.
