Microsoft's freshly-formed internal Halo studio, 343 Industries, is working on a Halo: Combat Evolved remake.
That's according to "industry chatter" reported in the new Games Master magazine, which writes that the updated game could run on the Halo: Reach engine and arrive ahead of a full Halo 3 sequel in late 2012.
If true, the remade Halo: Combat Evolved could release on the original's tenth anniversary, which falls on November, 2011.
Microsoft has previously expressed interest in adopting an annual release model for the Halo series, and this would certainly fit that nicely.
Plus, when asked, UK Xbox boss boss Stephen McGill seemed to be in favour of a remake, telling Eurogamer earlier this month: "I imagine it's a good idea".
"I think some people want to go back to older games and see them revisited and I think a lot of developers want to see that too," he said.
We're certainly up for this. Are you, CVG massive?
While I completely agree, it just doesn't make sense with Reach. If Halo CE was supposed to take place right after Reach, why is so much completely different? Yes, I know Reach was made one decade after, but if someone new to Halo played Reach, then went and played CE, they'd think it was total shit. Because Bungie went and made changes to past details, it now changes CE. They should atleast re-make the first game so it fits with everything else. To me, it just seems somewhat out of place.
The only reason they would think it was total shit was because it was made like a decade ago. All they would really need to do is improve graphics and i think it would stand up to Reach.
You missed out, i'm sure this will happen sometime. But if it doesn't than you should really go buy the original, it's probably only like $5 but you will have a super fun time.
It seems a bit iffy beyond DLC. Remaking a game that is still playable on the Xbox 360 doesn't seem like the best choice for a full game. It will likely cost nearly as much as making a brand new game and some people might simply pass it over because they have Halo 1 and see no point buying it again (despite any added content or updated graphics) or are too cheap and will get the original used claiming it is just as good.
I like the interchangeable armor in Reach, but I'd rather it be the same schema for everyone. No ranks either--except for maybe vague skills ranks like in 2 that we don't actually see. Just gaming. Make it as shiny as you need to, though I would prefer matte coloring on Spartans like in the first game, better variety of colors and emblems and that's it. Perfect.
Bungie just had to add in the opening of what began everything didn't they? I'd definitely buy a Halo CE remake, but only if they add in the multiplayer that they had on the PC version.
Not even number ranks? Number ranks are one of the things that made me like Halo 2 and 3 so much. Nothing like getting a good team of four and going a long night run of leveling. But that might just be my mmo side talking.
I doubt they are going back to the number rank system. All that does is encourage people to try to cheat the Trueskill system. Personally, I'd rather have the rank obsessed people trying to cheat the credit system than the matchmaking system.
I agree, they'll keep the upgraded rank system, add multiplayer, improve all assets (materials, static meshes, etc.) and use all of these variables to improve the original Halo experience by doing these things but still keeping with most or all of the original mechanics of the game. I just hope 343 can do it right. Bungie has always been great with their property, but I fear that 343 might taint or "Lucas" it.
good. I've been waiting to see what planet Chief was floating about for years now. XD
Yeah, poor old chief has been stuck in the cooler, with Cortana going all evil red eye (Computer form of pink eye)? on us (Halo: Legends) and we still have no idea where he's floating off to. *sigh* Although that said. it would be nice to fight the flood in the Library again (in HD) and the final warthog race through the pillar of Autumn. heeh... 343 don't screw this up for me...
I would love to see a CE remake myself, even if they just made everything like Reach. Although, I wouldn't want them to change up too much in the way of campaign. I mean add to or shorten up levels, fine. But I wouldn't add AA's or new vehicles etc..., they weren't in the original, they weren't in the book so I don't think they should be in the remade campaign. Like AgntVirginia said earlier, make it more like the novel. I also wouldn't want armor changing for the campaign, the Master Chief is the Master Chief. Multiplayer, they could do what they want, but I would like to see the "living dead" playlist be that if your a "zombie" than means your the Flood, not just a pea soup colored Spartan with a sword. But I don't know, very few remakes in any media (video games, movies, etc..) ever do justice to the original, so it might be best just to leave well enough alone and tell us what happens after H3.
Note: I always referred to that last race to the swordfish at the end as "The Drive", that was one of the best moments in the game. Especially doing a 360 in the air on that big jump about 2/3 of the way through.
I doubt they would make it like the novel since the official policy is anything in the novels automatically is non-canon if it contradicts the games. They probably would implement some of the retcons though, like actually showing Johnson survived rather than having him die in the original then explaining it away by claiming he was just off camera and no one was talking to him.
Can't really comment about the quality of the novel since I never read it. I'm a little dubious of Dietz though. It's a pretty bad sign when someone that writes series novelizations never gets picked up again by a series after doing a one off novel or trilogy for them.
