Yes, I know this argument has raged. But I figured it out. The difference between Halo and CoD is Halo is for people that just want to have fun, I'd hate to break it to all of you, but Halo is NOT competitive, it just isn't, it's based on the community and just having a good time. Now CoD is less community based, we all know it. CoD is more for competitive. Don't argue, don't spaz and be like "Halo iz fur noobz trololol" or "C0ck 0f Duty Suks m0nky nutz" or "FAKE, FAKE AND GAY" just vote or say which game you like better, I want to see what the majority of people like a competitive game or just to have fun (Which is what video games were made for) I prefer Halo myself.
I have the sinking feeling I'm gonna get hate messages and comment, possibly death threats.
Sure they're both shooters, but let's take a look at some pretty major differences between the two franchises.
Halo - Aliens - Large custom game community - Huge on content creation - Guns range from Human to Alien - Story is straightforward and based in one very specific universe
COD - Terrorists, Russians, Germans, etc. - Twitch shooter - Shoots for semi-realism - More graphic in terms of narrative - Story is cutthroat and gritty, very action packed. - All about the large scale multiplayer (though less so than BFBC2)
All in all, both games are great. If you (generically speaking) don't enjoy one or the either, don't flame them, just enjoy your game of choice. Both have dev teams that spend months- years working on these titles, and they're all great in different ways.
Me? I'll enjoy my time playing both. I'm a Halo fanboy at heart, but I love COD with friends on a weekend.
Oh, and Halo IS competitive. Sorry to burst your bubble. And it defined competitive gaming and MLG LONG before Call of Duty 4 came along and changed how the gaming community looked at the COD franchise.
Bullshit, it did not defind Competitive Gaming, Take wone look at Counter Strike, wethere ti be 1.6, source or condition Zero, they've all been out WELL before COD4 or halo 3....
I'm going with Halo. I cannot bare Call of Duty any more. Call of Duty 4 was great, so instead of building a better game next time they just make a clone of Call of Duty 4.
I like playing COD though I'm not a person who over-hypes about the cool features or stuff like that. I was fan since Call of Duty 2 came out. And to tell you the truth it wasn't that competitive back then before Modern Warfare. It was all out grenade spamming but hell it was a lotta fun.
As for Halo yeah its pretty cool too for someone who has grown up with the franchise. I don't mind what I play as long its still Halo. The fun never goes away for me. Whether its Halo: CE or Halo Wars.
This is my big thing, at least on CoD MW2, I loved the first MW, but the second was very noob friendly. You get kill streaks, that add to your kill streaks, you kill someone in an instant so the combat is one sided, the game almost MAKES you camp, and nukes were a failure. Anybody that's good a CoD MW aren't good. They can just get a predator missile. AND the matchmaking is SO broken, but I'm good at it haha. Black Ops I think is just so generally hard all around that it's too frustrating to play. CoD went down the drain after 4.
This is how I think of call of duty, personally, and do think some of it is fact.
Halo, yes it has its low point. To be honest, I don't want to think of them.
But the high points of halo is
It's less one sided. there is little to no camping. no kill streaks=no camping really No player advantage, every ones on the same page this way it DOES show who is better.
I'm sure halo's gonna have it's D-Day...somehow even though you have the option of customs if the matchmaking goes down the drain.
I'll be tagged as flame bate for sure, but if you have the downs for halo post'm, as long as they're not one sided fanboy facts.
And for the average person, it's not competitive(when I say it I mean halo and person I mean gamer)
I would ay Halo because I agree with Cage Te17 i enjoy the game but in COD everybody is soooo competitive its not even fun and an Halo you can build amazing maps.
lol... I played in the CAL (who fucking didn't) from CS 1.3 through Source, and remember it being fun, but it was terribly mishandled (and later bought up by a bunch of scumbags). CPL was no better, and is now owned by the very same set of scumbags.
MLG really did define what the community at large considers "competitive gaming" these days, and has done a great job of popularizing it by working with developers (e.g. custom playlists in Halo MP). That having been said, no one game defined it in this era. The release time between Halo 2 (the first Halo title with online Multiplayer without insane workarounds) and CoD 4 was pretty damn short: 3 years. Since their releases, both franchises (as well as several others) have caused major changes in the Pro Gaming circuit.
It's less one sided. there is little to no camping. no kill streaks=no camping really No player advantage, every ones on the same page this way it DOES show who is better.
By your own argument, wouldn't that mean you consider Halo to be more competitive a game than CoD? Those are all traits of a good competitive game.
Personally, I think CoD tends to be worse as a competitive game for a few reasons: - Players that play longer have an advantage given to them by the game through perks, additional equipment options, etc. So if you take two players that are exactly evenly matched, then the person that played the game longer still is likely to have an edge. - Map design in CoD tends to be fairly lopsided. - Most game types are asymmetrical, which makes it much more likely that being on one side gives you an advantage. - Pairing seems much more random in terms of skill in CoD. After you played Halo for awhile, you tend to have far less instances of people that are either so much better than everyone else they can single handedly win team objective matches or so terrible that they have difficulties with things like "you need to go through the door to exit the building." It does happen in Halo, but not at the same sort of level as I've seen it in CoD.
Halo - Aliens - Just different skins for the bad guys - Large custom game community - because party boosting is all the rage - Huge on content creation - so was practically every ps2 game/all pc games great mod communities - Guns range from Human to Alien - Re-skinned guns oooo pretty lights instead of bullets - Story is straightforward and based in one very specific universe - O.O story jumps around places a lot
COD - Terrorists, Russians, Germans, etc. - :) - Twitch shooter - Real life fastest trigger finger wins - Shoots for semi-realism - :) - More graphic in terms of narrative - :) - Story is cutthroat and gritty, very action packed. - :) - All about the large scale multiplayer (though less so than BFBC2) - Considering it doesn't have destructable enviroments this is a given
Bot have + - both are great, they are both shooter's with very little differences one has you killing aliens the other humans one has shields one has you try your best"PS i think shields make it less competitive & cod a little more because it's kill or die not kill or hide wait for shields to recharge"
Both games jump scenes a lot one second your in space next you on a planet, one second your in america next your in russia.
Neither defined competitive gaming PC was competitive gaming before they existed and before pc it was the arcade competitive seen both arcade & pc defined it console just took over it.
Also my major grief with halo besides shields is no ADS why all the hipfire it leaves shooting with little skill & grief with cod is kids/ clays/killstreaks perks are fine but killstreaks slow things down and break gameplay.
Halo, more I iconic to what we call "xbox" I like cod two but it's just not as good, I can't make a complete coustom mP in cod now can I ? Seriously forge in reach on the forgeworld map, I cant stop playing with it and being Proud of the final product.
In reply to CageTE17, #1: Halo has been recognized as a competitive game since CE. In fact, one of the largest North American gaming tournaments has had Halo as it flagship title since 2004, and COD has just recently been used in large tournaments.
to me halo is more of a fun, messing around game, to play with non hardcore gamer friends
while CoD is for playing online with friends or just talking to random people since almost everyone has a mic(although i dont find the newest CoD very fun)
Being mostly a PS3 gamer, I have had bad experiences with Call of Duty more or less. I'd take BFBC2 any day of the week over any Call of Duty game, but in terms of enjoyment, I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with any of the Halo games, and hope I can say the same for Reach. Halo is just fun.
Both. At the moment I am in the middle of making the change from BO to Reach. I haven't played Halo since October, and so it's actuallty difficult for me to get used to the Halo controls. The only problem I have with Reach is...when did most of the players turn into a bunch of whiners? I've been pitted against people who either cry about how broken the game is, or how bad others are playing, and so it's become a habit to mute everyone asap;
Reach just because the people on the game are more often than not easier to get along with and the fact that everyone has the same weapons when they spawn make it a much more fin game for me
Even though they are both FPS games, both are totally different game play wise. The similarities in the stories are neither here nor there because, yes, the story is important, but realistically most people who play these games on a constant basis spend the majority of their time in multiplayer. The class system in CoD makes it to where with a little work, everyone starts their matches with the weapons and equipment they are the most effective with. That means that everyone has the potential to play above how they would with default classes. The load out system in Reach offers very slight differences from one to the next so a mostly level playing field is attained, in theory. Some people can't effectively use some weapons so the system is partially broken right out the gate.
Also, in Halo, there is no hip firing in the CoD sense. Your always ADS. Even when using a sniper rifle. Zooming and ADS are not the same. Yes, with sustained fire your bullet spread goes to shit, but that's in both games and realistic.
You have no shields in CoD, but your health does regenerate. These days that is a staple of the FPS genre. Get shot in CoD or Reach and take cover for a moment and your back to normal.
Not having kill streaks does NOT mostly eliminate camping. There will always be campers. People too scared to get fake bullets in them will never progress. Posting up in one spot or area takes no skill.
Both games are fantastic. The major negatives for the CoD franchise are the installments made by Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare 1 and 2 had their high points, but in comparison to WaW, they are utter garbage. IW hasn't got a clue how to put out a non-broken game, or how to properly maintain the online experience. Black Ops is the best of them so far. It just feels nicer and flows better. For Halo, yeah it's fun, but there seems to be many more bullshit calls in it.
Currently, Black Ops is my game. However I'm in the process of getting back into Reach. Stick with either Halo or a Treyarch iteration of CoD and you can't go wrong.
And for the record, MLG is the PETA of the gaming world. Full of people who just ruin shit for others and cry about everything. And Battlefield is complete bullshit. Those are my opinons. Not looking to start an argument, just need to make sure everyone is aware.
Im going with Halo. Halo 3 Stayed on top of the charts after 3 years ; and they dont make games as often like CoD does. Halo has so much Replay Value,Online and Offline
I'm going to say Halo, simply because I loved every COD game up to MW, and then I lost all respect for the franchise. It was not fun, and EVERY game I joined, I got annoying retards just swearing and freaking out. Constantly.
Yes, I get that on Halo as well, but not on the same level of rage (in my experience) and how often as COD.
Then I was going to give the series another chance, and get Black Ops... after it was out for a few months, and they announced that there would be a new game out this year.
Yeah. Fuck that.
COD is turning into an annual sports game. Eventually they'll just start doing:
Call Of Duty 2012 Call of Duty 2013 Call of Duty '14 (just to be different)
