What's the best thing to give a cat with a stuck hairball? Isis keeps doing the dry heave thing like she's going to barf. I broke open a fish oil pill and soaked a couple of cat treats in it and she ate them, but it doesn't seem to have helped (either to make her barf it up or get it to slide through). Any other ideas?
We have some sort of hairball paste that we give our long-haired cats, comes in a toothpaste looking tube but tastes like fish or liver. Do you guys brush them?
We bought this glove-looking thing that has rubber bristles on it, but neither of them will let me get near them with it. Neither of these cats are lap cats so it's very tough. I FINALLY got Aja to the point where she'll let me put her on my lap, but she'll only stay there for like a minute before she jumps off. Isis won't stay on my lap for 5 seconds before she struggles to get away. She loves to be petted, but doesn't want to be picked up or sit on anyone's lap. Jim and I were talking about buying this thing called the "Furminator" that people rave about online (and our vet office recommends), but I wonder if either of them will let us near them with this thing.
Right now she's not looking like a happy kitty. She wants food, though (follows me whenever I head for the kitchen), and is drinking water, but she hasn't wanted to play at all and that's odd for her.
We had one of those gloves and one cat hated it and the other loved it. They might just need some time to get used to it, leave it around so they can sniff it and see if that helps any.
I just googled the furminator and it looks awesome but expensive.
Yeah. Both our cars need repairs (Jim's like $700 and mine about $250), so not sure that's really in the budget right now. Saw other suggestions online to prevent them in the future ... growing cat grass (oat grass) so they can eat it, that paste you mentioned, mixing about a teaspoon a day of canned pumpkin in with their food.
I think the other one, Aja, might have hayfever. She's been sneezing (along with Jim) the last week or so. We put on an air purifier (and the pollen situation has gotten better) and they both seem better now. She was only sneezing, though. Nothing else wrong.
Did you ever find homes for the shop kitties? Did the one that ran away ever come back?
I've posted on Reddit and Facebook to try and find homes or at least foster homes for them but no one has been very helpful. We're going to try putting up flyers at our vet's office and a friend's vet. I was hoping that my grandmas would each just take two, but neither of them seem fond of that idea. I'm really dreading having to say goodbye and splitting them up. :(
Ditto what Jackie said. Does your town or any of the surrounding towns have a Senior Citizen Center? You might try posting your flyers there.
Some of the local FreeCycle groups online allow postings to try to find homes for pets (most don't, though). Go to freecycle.org and find the one closest to you, join it and check their rules to see if you can post there.
Bey, we have a place here called Brother Wolf that is really amazing as an animal rescue center - it's a no-kill shelter that works damn hard to find loving, forever homes for pets.. and keeps them in humane, comfortable environments in the meantime (drew and i have volunteered there a few times, and the company i work for is one of their sponsors).
Maybe you have something like that locally? I actually emailed my boss to see if she would know of anything like that in your area - she does a lot of work with animal shelters and lost pets/pets needing homes. I'll let you know what she says...
One of the shelters might even be willing to post photos and info on petfinder.com with your number/email as the contact info??? Not sure if they do that type of thing.
Bey, I only know that you live near Birmingham, so I put that in as the search for city and it lists by distance. Might be something closer if you change the search parameters.
Thanks, these are good suggestions! All of them but one are really sweet cats who love playing and pets so I'm sure someone will want them. I wish they could all go together, but I know most people do not need four new cats. :( And I'm worried people right now will want kittens instead of adult cats, since it's kitten season and all.
Bey, my boss says to check out the Best Friends Animal Society.. it's in Utah, but apparently they work with shelters and have contacts all over the country.. so they may be able to help
Also, guys? Guys. Especially Roadblock. There is a Kickstarter for a new Shadowrun game. I played the SHIT out of that on Genesis, heard the XBox FPS was a disaster, don't know much about the original board game (Roadblock). I would give a left nut, not mine of course, for this to happen.
This is a fairly ambitious Kickstarter. I dunno if you are familiar with the franchise, but gawddamn, if there's one Genesis game that still haunts me, this is it.
You had the street crawling, but then you had the 'hacking' into terminals. Sooo William Gibson. And so long ago it was visionary.
In other news, I've been playing Flower. Played Flow, it was meh. Flower is almost like therapy. Like anti-tetris. I want Razzy to try it. We have both been on edge. I don't show it except by being an asshole here, she gets all IRL and shit. Not crazy, just more emotive.
Translation: We found a garbage bag with the two-layer, 1" diameter hole chewed in it and realized that Isis may not have a hairball, but 1-2 pieces of plastic inside her that is stuck. The vet isn't open until 8AM tomorrow. No 24-hour vet anywhere close by.
