So for those of you who don't know Toonami was something Warner Bros./Cartoon Network did back in the late 90's up until 2008. It was basically an anime version of Adult Swim, minus all of the nonsense that comes from it. Hell it even had a cool Master Chief style host, complete with V.I. female assistant. Sadly Toonami was taken down, primarily because the staff that had originally worked on it moved onto other ventures.
So why do I bring this up? Because one of my all time geekiest childhood memories may be coming back better than ever. On April 1st Warner Bros. replaced Adult Swim with Toonami to basically test the waters and see how fans would react to it coming back. The long and short, they were farely positive. Enough for an official response from Cartoon Network which basically asked fans to be patient.
I don't know if it will come back in any 'official' capacity, but its hard to argue that a return from Toonami would be a great thing. Not so much for a guy like me but for children who can truly experience something that was entertaining yet felt rewarding to its loyal followers. So at the end of the day what do you guys wish for? A pipe-dream? Maybe a chance for a great pop-cultural return? Or maybe just a quick lament about your favorite Toonami show?
I can almost guarantee that it would nearly triple their views, especially if they brought back their old style of showing a lot of anime and more crude humor shows. I would watch it all the time! Really hope they bring it back, and I think we may have to credit a bit of it to Nick for bringing back some of their classic shows (All That and such) as to why they thought of having toonami on again.
I was staying up one saturday night a few months ago. I flipped to Adult Swim, saw that some anime was on, and watched it. Realized it was Toonami, then was like "Oh, I remember this from a while back." (I was younger, didn't know much about Toonami or anime, and didn't really watch either, I never knew it was cancelled)
Next morning I see a video on the homepage of YouTube of Steve Blum talking about how Toonami is back. Found out that I had just happened to tune into the first showing of it in years, after more recently getting into anime. Lucky for me.
