I think you have us gamers confused with nerds.

Most of us are either Gamers, Artist, Bloggers or Bronies... Don't think there are many Trekkie here.
I'm no Trekkie but I do enjoy watching Next Gen. If that counts for anything.

Trekkie by proxy! Parents are huge Trekkies, and I've proudly picked up some stuff. Would easily, spectacularly lose any sort of trivia competition or anything hands down, but I'd definitely call myself a fan.

As for groups or whatever, why not start one up~?

I used to watch it with my dad when I was kid but never got into it after that. We both stopped watching it when Enterprise came out.

Personally I've stopped differentiating between geek and nerd.

Geeks are into scifi, fantasy etc, whereas nerds are into math, science and so on.

I personally haven't watched any of the old Star Trek episodes - I've watched the latest film version though. I know that these modernised versions of long-standing series tend to attract a lot of hate, but I've got no clue with this one - did you guys enjoy the latest film version?

Perhaps Geek would have been a better word. I tend to use them interchangeably.

I enjoyed it a great deal. Die hard fans often see change as a threat or an insult. Its common not just among Trek fans but others as well. Look at all the rage the Star Wars Prequels generated. Then there was the initial shocks from the Sci Fi remake of Battlestar Galactia, "OMG Starbuck is a girl!"

JJ and crew took a few big risks and in my opinion it payed off.

There were interest groups for the various series, but they were all erased or moved to another dimension or something by the Abrams film.
Well, except for Enterprise, but come on.

JJ's movie was spawned in another dimension. The 'Prime' universe still exists on its own.

I wonder if he was thinking of that while making the movie, or if it came after...

The purpose was to create a fresh start, a new beginning to tell new stories as well as old stories in new ways. TOS was made in the Sixties and some of the things in the show are very out of date. For example, in the final episode it was established that Women could not serve as starship Captains. Imagine that flying these days.

Touche. I'm still not a fan of the series, it had it's moments, but overall I didn't like it.

Anyways, if there aren't any groups, make them.

Sound advice, I just need to make sure I have interest first.

I was in a music class about fifteen years ago when the teacher played the Star Wars theme.
One guy claimed it was the theme to Star Trek, but the teacher corrected him.
The pupil responded, "It used to be called Star Wars, but it is called Star Trek these days".
I wanted to slap him so bad.
