For those of you who followed E3 this year, you almost definitely saw SquareEnix's tech demo for their (admittedly gorgeous) graphics engine. They have a website here where you can tell them what you think about the new tech they've brought to the show as well as the story conveyed through it.

Now as for the story...(spoilers if you haven't watched it)

Is it me, or is the hero of this video... kind of the villain?

The wizard-priest gentleman that she works for radiates a kind of Jim Jones-ish charismatic cult leader intensity, and seems to be hell-bent on crushing all the dissidents. The clearly impoverished underclass breaks in on them attempting to summon a giant beast, attempts to stop them with their clearly inferior firepower, and while they kill Reverend Jones, they fail to prevent the summoning of God-knows-what at this point (though Jones made a point to state that he intended to use its power to "rain down destruction"). The female protagonist of our short then takes what I assume is some sort of summoning crystal from the guy (after electrocuting the intruders), flees from them, and finally escapes a mutated dog the notably uniformly brown terrorist analogues sent to kill her by way of dragon, which is apparently what they summoned in the beginning.

The final shot lingers on her riding off towards some sort of techno-utopia, leaving behind the slums and further conveying the desperate disparity between the priest-wizards and the thinly-veiled terrorist people.

So... yay for our glorious hero?

Maybe I'm reading into this too much. What do you guys think?
