I can't tell you how much I love this show. Every week it just gets better and better and better. The whole Ethan Rom thing looks absolutely awesome. I must say I didn't expect to find a sort of mole inside the group of survivors, but there he is. Also, I haven't heard any definitive evidence of how long Season 1 will be, but I must say that this show deserves to be picked up for a 2nd season. I really think this show could be great, right now it's really good, but it could achieve greatness by continuing to have these great episodes. There hasn't been an episode yet that I didn't find completely enthralling, and the next one looks like more of the same.
Since we officially disbanded the Who Will Die Next? game, this is the new Lost thread since I (we) am (are) sick of people predicting who will die, when the writers have said that probably only one main character will die 1st season.
Well, I've made this new thread, so we can let the other one die, so...discuss:
I didn't get to see the first couple of episodes...but I really wanted to start watching this show...I was just afraid I wouldn't get it cause of the stuff I missed, so I'm waiting for the DVD to come out.
LOST ROCKED TONIGHT! And ::yawns:: yeah. I'm tired, Allegra D has made me all tired and stuff. I'd post more but yeah. I'm kinda sad to see the former forum thing go but ah well. But I think you need to post on the older lost forum the link to the new one (unless I missed it just now).
... there's something about Locke. That was him in her dream, I believe. He's dreamwalking. He's slowly becoming the new Robert, I believe. (aka the new ambassador to the evil side of the island... this may proved to be essential to the season finale)
... there's something about Locke. That was him in her dream, I believe. He's dreamwalking.
Reminds me of a bad guy in a fantasy series I have read, Sword of truth.
I thought tonights episode was kinda boring until Sayeed got back. I think there was more action in the trailer for next week. Dang, I hate waiting a week between episodes.
I don't get it though... is Mr. Rom one of the "others"? Is he one of the original people stranded on the island? How many plot twists can they possibly fit into one season?
The Ultimate Good/The Ultimate Evil: It is pretty much confirmed that there are two forces on the island, one good and one evil. What their purpose is or how they came to be has yet to be known.
Claire and her baby: I cannot say just yet. I can, however, surmise that Claire is the Ultimate Good. I believe that her coming to the island was to rebalance the scale of good and evil on the island. The baby will be the next stranded soul that the next plane crash discovers in 16 more years.
That is, if this crash is not the end of the cycle.
If one guesses that the crash IS indeed the end of the cycle, then that would make it more clear why the Ultimate Evil is going all out to get at Claire.
IT moved her to the caves, through Charlie (he was still under drugs, and so still accesible). IT made sure Ethan Rom was intigrated in their midsts from Day One.
Another thing: it refuses to kill Claire. It wants to raise the baby as its own in order to further tip the scales... and maybe even escape the island itself.
It had been trying- with horrible results- to kill Danielle all these years. How? We don't know yet. We do know that she "saw" it in Robert and others somehow. The Frenchies brought rifles on their expedition. If they were expecting it, then how did they know?
Locke: Here is what we know. He was crippled, but then given the power to walk. We can assume both the Ultimate Good (in whatever handicapped form it was in) and the Ultimate Evil both saw his potential, but I believe that it was the Ultimate Good which got to him first. It thwarted the Ultimate Evil a second time when it met him in the jungle. But the Ultimate Evil suckerpunched the Good by giving Locke a fellow hunter in the form of Ethan Rom. This power struggle happens around episode seven.
Lately, the Ultimate Evil has been taking over Locke, who is unwittingly fighting it. It uses his dreamwalking ability to try to get to Claire, and it proclaims to her that it will kill the rest if she gives birth. The lighting at the end of episode nine shows us this struggle within him.
The Ultimate Evil's Recent Change in Form: IT understands that every since Sayid's little trip, it cannot rely on The Guy In The Woods. So it now is speeding up the proccess by now manifesting itself into human form- many humans. It may be very vulnerable in this state. In fact, I am sure of it.
The Monster: It is more like Locke in more ways than one. It not only has a connection with him and is willing to "give" him things, but it is also extremely accesible by both the Good and Evil.
Who is Accesible by the Evil: Charlie WAS, and to a degree, still IS Locke Sawyer IS NOT, because he is too weak of a person Jin most definetly IS, but we have not seen that yet. Michael and Walt ARE NOT, but it may use Walt as a last resort. Hurley IS NOT. Jack IS NOT. It can only get to him externally. Kate IS NOT. Sayid IS NOT. Claire, being the ultimate good, IS NOT. Boone IS. Shannon IS. Sun IS NOT.
Who will die?: Jack: No. Kate: No. Locke: Redemption? Maybe. Charlie: Maybe. Jin: I strongly see it. Sun: I can see it. Sawyer: No. Sayid: Maybe. Boone: No. Shannon: Maybe. Hurley: No. Claire: No.
It's awesome that you put that much thought into it, but I don't want to guess anything to deeply involved before I see the rest of the season, just cuz I'm enjoying going with the flow thus far.
While I'm pretty sure that someone has probably guessed the premise by now, I still think it's very unlikely that we'll get it exactly on the button, so i'm just gonna wait and see what happens.
And also, just as one prediction, I don't think there's a monster. The monster wouldn't have just disappeared, seeing as we haven't seen it now for most of the season. I think it's far more likely that it was just a manifestation of the fear of the survivors. I'm also starting to think that the polar bear on the comic book didn't manifest the polar bear. After hearing the french woman say "if we're lucky it's a bear", I'm guessing that there have been bears on that island for decades, so it wouldn't have come from the comic book. Yes, you might be saying "these bears might not be polar bears", but I'm guessing they are.
December 15, 22, 29 there will be re-runs of Episodes 1-6. They will show 2 each of those nights until the show returns from hiatus on January 5th. So anyone who missed the early episodes can get caught up over the Holidays!
Second, this show WILL NO DOUBT be picked up for a 2nd season! What else has ABC got going for it except for Lost and Desperate Housewives. Lost is now my favorite TV show on TV, until 24 comes back in January. Then it'll move to a very close 2nd.
Lastly, holy crap!! What is up with this Ethan guy? What does his know about the baby? How long has been hanging around the survivors and learning about them. Next week looks like another bad ass episode!

one word;
ALIAS
Goat> all I can say is wow, you got too much time to think about things. I still enjoy the show with my simple mind believing they are regular people stuck on a weird island.
I also enjoy this show.....it's great but the show does has its cheesy moments. The storyline and plot is excellent and they managed the characters really well.
But the Dec 1st episode really sucked. That friggen Aussie girl pissed the nerves out of me.
Alias is going to have a tough time of it tho... its playing against the West Wing (IIRC). I for one am addicted to the West Wing; and this season it seems to be picking up some of its tension and interest (finally recovering from Sorkin going buh-bye). If it continues, die hard WW fans that might also be Alias fans are gonna be torn.
(i'm particularly annoyed because i was hoping to be able to get into Alias this year. meh)
back On Topic: i missed this weeks ep, and from what i've heard it was a damned good one! I'm glad they're replaying the old eps because i think i missed 3 & 4.
But the Dec 1st episode really sucked. That friggen Aussie girl pissed the nerves out of me.
Really?
By the end of that episode I was completely in love with her, and I never really thought of her much before as big part of the show.
Granted the attraction may be purely physical... well, that and there is the cute aussie voice to go with it. She has one of those Grace Kelly kind of faces. I gasped when they showed a close up of her.
She annoyed me in the fact that she wouldn't even consider Jack's suggestion. I mean, with all the stress these people are going through is no wonder more of them are not going completely nuts!! She could have at least given it some thought. Instead she charges off into the jungle and gets herself kidnapped.
She is a cutie though. But my heart still belongs to Kate. =)
Did we get any indication of which character next week's episode is going to focus on, if any? I couldn't really catch on in the trailer, but they may have chosen to focus on just the Ethan Rom storyline for suspense. I suppose it may just be a purely plot-driven story, what with all the dynamic action they set up at the end of last night's episode. We haven't seen a pure-plot episode (e.g. one where we don't at least partially focus on flasbacks around a single character) since the pilot.
Just wondering if anyone had any intel regarding this - I'm not so much looking for spoilers (where's the fun in that?), just curious if the show's headed in a slightly different direction next week. I wouldn't be surprised if it were so; they've already gone through about half of the main characters' backstories once, so in order to fill out a full 22 episode season they'd need to break up the flashback episodes with a few based solely around events on the island.
Man, I can't believe this is the first time I've posted on a Lost thread. The show's freaking great. About time I quit lurking.
From what I understand it will be Jack-centered Part 2. But that was posted awhile ago on another forum. Looking at the preview for next week I don't know if that is still true or not.
I gave you a ditto on that m1a127, I think the 12/1 episode may even have been the best all season. There were so many more mysterious doors opened up in that one from the psychic to Ethan. It was great.
Did anyone catch how scary Locke looked in Claire's dream when his eyes were all blackened? Whoa!
They weren't blackened. Only one was black, and the other was white. (Just like the two pieces they found in the cave, and the 2 pieces that Locke demonstrated Backgammon to Walt with in the pilot). These are very important, and I'm guessing they represent the light and dark powers of the island. I wouldn't be surprised if they followed that more in later episodes.
In reply to spartan13, #17: Someone was going after her unborn baby. With a knife. I think that would change my perspective of things.
Agreed. That and the fact that women don't react in a "normal" way to anything during pregnancy.
And she's d been through a somewhat traumatic experience troughout her pregnancy. First having the baby was not an option, the family would never agree. Then the boyfriend dumped her, the the psychic stuff. The girl's scared.
He said: "It's best to hunt at night."; notice how the Monster is never evil in the daytime? How Sayid was only able to hear the Evil at night? And even more scary- frightening, actually- is that it was night in Claire's dream.
I, too, believe the next one is Jack-centric. It would be stupid not to delve into each character more than once.
On the purpose of each character that we know of so far: Jack: Bring something back. This brings us to a new theory, and a new name. While Claire has been chosen to be The Ultimate Good, it looks like it has fallen on Jack to be The Hero, or The Protector.
Claire: As said before, the Ultimate Good.
Locke: The Carrier (I get that name from what Danielle implied about the Evil accessing people)
Sayid: Unless proven otherwise, The Warrior.
Hurley: The Truth Seer. Notice how everything that he has done has been productive to the whole situation? Pretty smart for a dumb guy, yes?
Lost is my favorite show on TV. I've been watching it since the first episode.
But I missed last nights, but I downloaded it in about thirty minutes. Really awesome episode, one of the best of the season. I'm going to end up downloading all of em and putting them on DVD...Hey, we pay our Cable Bill. It's the same if we had taped it.

Not to spark a debate or anything, but didn't you JUST say in the other thread that you had no interest in using it for archival purpses and were/did delete it just after you watched it, only having downloaded it because you forgot to tape it?

Agreed, I have had enough of the slow story and all the background stuff. And yes, next weeks episode looks to have the most action since the show started, I am excited.... Plus there is not a 2 hour bachelor crapola show on to force another 2 week wait. That killed me.
