Yeah, Real FunnyGood job CNN. Way to take a disease that's actually very serious and upsetting to watch progress and currently threatening large populations of horses across the country and make a joke out of it by adding rodeo queens to the mix. That took a lot of intellectual power, Jeanne Moos. You could make AIDS funny if you added rodeo queens.
There are two things everybody needs to realize, which it has become glaringly obvious to me that people are ignorant of:
1) "Herpes" is not synonymous with "genital herpes." The latter is a type of the former general term for herpesvirus. Herpes can be serious, highly contagious, and deadly in terrifying ways (imagine the myelin covering on your nerves stripping off). Genital herpes can actually be funny. Big difference.
2) NOT ALL DISEASES ARE ZOONOTIC. You can't give a horse genital herpes, and a horse can't give you equine herpes. It will never happen unless some extraordinarily dramatic mutation takes place in the viral DNA of one of the viruses, which is unlikely to happen anytime soon since all herpesviruses are double stranded DNA viruses. If you don't know what that means, take a fucking microbiology class and you will. The people who make STD bestiality jokes just sound like morons to my pre-vet animal sci mind.
Who knows, maybe I'll find it all more humorous when the horses I ride and work with no longer have to be in a biosecure environment to avoid mortal danger anymore.
