You have no idea how happy I am that Lamar's original rap is still in Round One, and my favorite solo out of the bunch made the cut for Round One as well <3
So, I just got done watching the season finale, and you left me hanging.... I heard the beginning of the credits song and got excited that I'd have that to tide me over until the CD release... and it's the intro guitar part. Well played =P
Yeah, I have to agree, there were a couple parts in particular where certain things were WAY too loud, or the balancing of voices/ambient noise/music was way off. Awesome episode though, so excited to see the end of the season! =]
I had an awesome time hanging out with you and the Rt guys, thanks so much. I would love to take you up on that offer anytime, just let me know if you have a date in mind or anything and I'll gladly come to the studio. Take care man, hope you had as much fun as I did =]
Been a while since I last messaged you but things have been busy around here too so I apologize =P Do you plan on going to PAX East? I'm going and I would love to meet you and talk for a bit if you were. Also, I wanted to tell you I love the Immersion intro, good work =]
Thank you for the compliments on my music, I really appreciate it. I feel like we both have a similar style of writing, and I think that's why I LOVE the Revelation soundtrack. I've got some new stuff written and I'm hoping to find some people to record with I guess. I love writing but I hate that I don't have all the equipment and people to make awesome quality music.

Hey Jesse--I'm very sorry it's taken so long to write back. End of semester=busy.
Gotta tell you, I really like your music a LOT. it seems like I listened to the first one more than the second---really really liked it a lot.
I don't have the NI gtr rig pedal thing, I just plug into my interface. So if you have lots of latency i dont think that will be the single problem solver.
Yeah, Lass is cool--theres a new library out called Symphobia 2 that sounds really good too. I just bought a new computer and interface.....ouch...spending tons of $$!!
Talk to you soon!

I LOVE my Laney, it's pretty damn loud for being so small but it's got a beautiful studio sound to it with a lovely clean channel. I've never had any problems with it, and despite what people may say about Laney I've yet to come across something they make that I dislike and I've owned a lot of their amps.
As for the modeling software, I've wanted to use a lot of them (specifically Guitar Rig actually lol) but I as of right now I don't have the special pedal so i get a LOT of latency. I think I'm going to buy myself the full package for Christmas, I really like the customization of it and a lot of the stock sounds. I haven't tried anythin...

I haven't tried anything else either, but from what I've heard Guitar Rig is what most people seem to enjoy so I'd be willing to bet it's one of the better products.
I have to say, I've been looking at LASS and it looks really awesome, I think someday in the near future I might buy the lite version when I start picking up larger projects of my own.I like Sytris but it lacks a lot of basic features and doesn't have many choices for exactly what strings you'd like to use. Thanks for the info on what you use, I've really taken a liking to LASS =D
Cool, I'm glad you don't use any odd tunings because I'd really like to sit down and try to learn a few songs of the album by ear, and I didn't want the tunings to be the biggest mystery of all =P I mostly write in Drop B myself, sometimes a Drop C, and very rarely a 7-string standard tuning. I tend to draw a lot of influence from various genres of metal, so these tunings fit my playing style lol.
I can't say I've ever heard of that specific model, but I would LOVE to get some older B.C Rich guitars. In my opinion, they don't make very good quality or sounding instruments anymore (can't say for their basses, never played one lol). I've played with a lot of their higher end stuff in stores, and it never feels right to me. I had a friend who had a pretty old B.C Rich which was absolutely beautiful, and I've liked their older models ever since. Personally, I'm a Dean guy but I own an Ibanez RG also.
Actually, we managed to get one not bad recording off before we all went our separate ways. I made a soundcloud account because we shut down everything else we had recently, but I posted the only recording we did and my favorite song that I've composed yet exported from the Guitar Pro file (ignore the horribly fake sounding instruments lol). Strain The Masses was the horribly cheesy title for the one song we recorded, and the other one was named Softepic as a placeholder and it never got a real name. I'd love it if you could check it out and maybe give me some comments or criticisms =D soundcloud.com/cfhhateph34r
Oh yeah, i always liked Laney amps, owned one for a while, long time ago. I have actually been using Native Instruments Guitar Rig for LOTS of guitar sounds now--it really sounds great and its so convenient. I havent used a lot of the other ones, like Amplitube and Revalver yet. But GR is really badass.
Sytris---cool--since I've always used a Mac there are a lot of PC only things that I've never checked out. The demos of LASS are stupid, check them out audiobro.com/html/demos.html

I don't really use any weird tunings, just drop D on a few songs. I do play fretless bass quite a bit, so that tuning is always....moving :) My fretless bass is really amazing. It's a BC Rich Eagle from 1982. No one knows these, but they kill.
Do you have any music I can check out? I'd love to hear!!
And thanks for the info on what you use, that's one thing that really interests me about other musicians is their setup for writing/recording and how their writing process happens. I currently use Guitar Pro for my guitar, bass, and drum tabs, while for strings I use this amazing plugin for Fruity Loops called Sytris, it's the most realistic thing I've come across so far.
Your rig sounds nice, I have a Laney HCM60R (HUGE combo amp that drowned out a Marshall halfstack live) and a few guitars, most notably my baby, a Dean Dimebag Dixie Rebel. I've stopped focusing on bands and all that stuff to work more on programming and composing, so I ...

I've stopped focusing on bands and all that stuff to work more on programming and composing, so I can't complain much about my setup, but I think the only thing I don't like much is I don't have much in the way of recording gear so I have to go to a friend's that does when I need to record.
I hate to pry at you again, but one thing I'm very curious about is what tuning you used for the guitar parts on the new soundtrack. I'd love to try to play Ice Fight or Red Vs Blue, so I'd really like to know. Also, if you can't think of much else to write for me about your stuff, that's completely fine =]
Thanks so much again Jeff for the wonderful music and the advice/answers, Jesse =]
Thanks for your message.... seriously: THANK YOU. I can't tell you how great it is to get messages like this. This year has been so great, working on the RvB music has been the best project--EVER.
I did most of the CD on a macbook pro laptop running software called logic. most stuff was edited and mixed in this program, as well as pro tools and nuendo. some songs have real drums, some have samples or loops. likewise with bass. i recently purchased this pricely strings library call LA Scoring strings. Sounds fantastic. i own a studio so i have quite a few nice mics and mic pres and convertors and all that stuff. and guitar amps! i have a marshall silver jubilee that i really ...

I got it when i was 14 and it just sounds so killer. I have a bunch of guitars but I play this beater lol.
The live players add so much, I'm hoping to be able to work more with more players in the future. Everyone who played on the CD is a badass, notably the english horn player, harmonica player, rapper, and of course Matt Hullum. Matt and I work really really well together, we really understand each other in a way that it a bit uncanny. Matt can tell me everything I need to know to write a song in like 20 words or less. I rarely get to see finished video, but we make it work. We wrote 3 songs together and have only met each other once for 3 hours. And we dont even talk on the phone much. It's really cool!
I'll write you again and brain dump on you some more but i have to run now-gotta write !
I can't tell you enough how much I absolutely love your work on the Revelation soundtrack, it's by far my favorite soundtrack of all time. I'd love to see you working on all the future seasons. I can't stop listening to a few of the songs, Red Vs Blue and the Ice Fight mainly, but I've listened to all the other songs quite a few times. Seriously, you composed a hell of a soundtrack.
I have a few questions, as I am an independent composer, and I'd love to get some advice from you. How do you record all the tracks? Do you have a program that you use for the strings and other various sounds, or do you record them live? If it wouldn't be asking too much, h...

I really hope you continue working closely with RT, and if you don't, I'll have to make sure I track down whatever you're working on =D
