Trunk Update + Bonus ProjectThis trunk thing is a long and labor intensive project. We got pretty much all the paint off and started polishing the metal pieces.

Poor Joe (SelecPanic) tried to fix the bulge in the lid by putting wood glue in the crack, setting a piece of wood over it and sitting on it. That didn't seem to work so he opted himself out for a 5 gallon bucket full of water. Success! The bugle is significantly smaller and now we can move onto putting in wood filler and cleaning everything up before we start to paint it!

While he was working on the trunk, I did a little side project myself. We took pictures of Denver and Dallas from Google Maps, highlighted the main highways and side roads and basically traced those onto canvas with craft tape (Martha Stewart's to be specific).

I then painted over the entire canvas, let it dry, and peeled the tape off.

Tah dah! Art! Well it kind of looks like the Microsoft logo...

TrunkSo the boyfriend and I picked up a ratty old trunk for $25 at the local thrift shop. We're going to try to clean it up and make it into a coffee table type thing. This is our journey.

Sanded all the loose pieces of paint off.

It's in pretty good shape despite the water damage on the top. I think we'll be able to glue it back together and press the bulging piece. There were no manufacturer's marking anywhere inside or outside of the trunk. All we found was on the lock itself. It said "Corbin Cabinet Lock Company." Which apparently is a company in Connecticut that made trunks and locks.

Free MoneyNo, no, not for you guys. I'm at work doing some required overtime and I don't really have any work to do. I appreciate the option of getting paid time and a half for 5hrs but at this point I'm ready to just leave. "But the money!" I keep reminding myself.

I haven't seen The Dark Knight Rises yet what with last Thursday being kind of clusterfuck for anyone living in Aurora, CO. I won't go into too much gory detail (no pun intended) seeing as I wasn't even there, thank God. My sister was though and that was too close for comfort. She's fine. She was lucky enough to only be in the theater next to all that happened. We're alive and that's all.

Joe and I plan to see TDKR this weekend so we can stop turning off the radio whenever we hear someone starting to review what they thought about the movie.

In September we're going to move out of our Aurora apartment and close to downtown Denver! Specifically to the neighborhood called "Capital Hill." Joe will be able to walk to work and we'll have pretty easy access to any and all events downtown. We'll also be living there in time for the Great American Beer Festival.

Which is basically a brewer's competition where people come from all over the US to compete for the best whatever. I'm super excited to go! Even a brewer in Ft Worth (Rahr) is going to be there!

Work has been... consistent but I think I'm ready for a vacation. We've got destinations that include Austin, Yellowstone, and San Francisco, but no plans yet. Gotta wait for that PTO to add up so we can take a decent vacation!

This has been quite an eventful past few days.

Joe and I saw The Avengers on opening night because that's how dedicated we are. To be frank, when I first heard about The Avengers movie I wasn't that enthusiastic about it. Not to say that I didn't enjoy all the other Marvel movies leading up to it (loved Ironman, all the others were "ok") but the idea of trying to give all those wonderful characters reasonable screen time while tying together a decent plot line seemed... out of reach. But enough of my terrible misjudgement. After my friends saw the midnight release of The Avengers I heard nothing but great things about it and it was then I became truly intrigued. And it really lived up to all the hype. I felt like the flow from character interaction to plot focus went really well. There was enough friendly banter and action sequences for all the characters and it didn't feel like anyone was left behind. Except maybe Hawkeye. Overall, it was damn near perfect. Cheers Avengers!

In other news, in one day I managed to get blisters on both my heels AND on the balls of my feet all because of a shiny new pair of sandals. I got the heel blisters from the shoes and the blisters on the bottom of my feet from walking around on the pavement because I thought that was a good idea.

In other, other news, the kitchen sink in our apartment backed up with black, putrid smelling water AND THEN erupted with red colored water. Apparently, since we're on the first floor, all the sinks in the three units above us drain through one main pipe. So we get all the shit from who ever is dumping what the maintenance guy thought was PAINT. He's just finished up and hopefully this won't happen again but it probably will.

Happy Wednesday everyone!
