A trying few weeks..It has certainly been a trying couple of weeks for my family and for myself. It first began about 3 weeks ago when I learned my grandmother was very ill after having a routine surgery...hip replacement. We were informed that she would be staying in a nursing home for 30 days to receive some physical therapy. They began the physical therapy and noticed that she was short of breath. They did some tests and came to the conclusion that she had water on her lungs, so they put her on 24 hour oxygen. The doctors and nurses didn't seem too concerned over this and sent her home. About a week passed and things looked good! Exactly one week and one day she was rushed back to the hospital for severe bloating of her abdomen which was pressing against her lungs and causing her breathing issues. They took a blood test and discovered that she has cancer, but were not sure where. They wanted to fly her to a hospital that had the means to accomodate her and do an exploratory surgery to find this cancer. My grandmother refused and said 'please, just drain the fluid from my abdomen to make me more comfortable'. They did just this. Four days later, Thursday May 3rd, I received a phone call from my sister tell me that my grandmother was dying and that she opted not to go through chemo and radiation, she opted not to have this surgery, instead she just wanted to die. Later that day my grandmother went into renal failure and began the dying process. Friday, May 4th at 4:50pm I got a phone call from my brother stating that grandma died from cancer that caused renal failure. It was one of the most shocking and saddest phone calls I may have ever gotten.
One week later.. May 11th, I call my mom's cell phone as I normally would do. I said 'hi, how are you' and she replies with 'please dont worry...I've had a heart attack and I'm in ICU and I have to let you go. Please don't worry, I'm OK'. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm the biggest worrier around! I think sometimes my brain thinks its funny to worry about EVERYTHING! My heart disagrees. Anywho, my mom spent Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday morning in the ICU. They believe that she had a series of heart attacks while she was there, but were unaware of how many. She is home now and doing very well! She's in a little pain, but they said in a few weeks that will subside! Now, can we all imagine what my dad might be going through? His mom dies, his wife has a heart attack.. ugh..I dont even want to think about it...it totally breaks my heart!
On a happier note, I'm buying a car this weekend! :) So no more bad things are going to happen from here on out!!
