PokemonSo I picked up Pokemon Black the day it came out, (yes I'm still into Pokemon, but haven't you heard? It's cool again!) and I must say I have been playing the series ever since blue and red but they have made some really great improvements.

The battles are more streamlined and are actually animated with a much needed fresh song selection that just so happens to integrate the low hp noise! (I'm a sucker for things like that) They have also streamlined the menus and have made selecting/using items much faster and better which makes me think I will never go back.

Also they have included some thought provoking elements through the story and the new team you go against. I've always have loved Pokemon but team rocket, team magma, team aqua, and team galaxy have always left something to be desired. Now I'm not saying the new team plasma isn't cheesy at times but they bring up issues like "should we be treating Pokemon like our possessions, getting them to do our bidding, and keeping them in the confines of pokeballs?" Now I do understand that these are questions to a fictional game that do sound a bit silly but I believe they mirror a lot of issues people are having with the way we treat animals these days. I just find that to make the story a bit deeper and the "bad guys" in the game (although they don't express it well) do have some excellent points and concerns that represent problems in our world much better than a bunch of people wanting all the powerful pokemon so they can rule the region.

Anyway I do love this game but I am probably over thinking it and reading to much into things as I tend to do and I hope to finish it sometime soon. I'm not quite sure if that will happen though because my pokemon adventure will be put on hold once I pick up Dragon Age 2. I try to stay level headed and unbiased about things but I'm such a Bioware fanboy. So expect another long winded, over thought journal about Dragon Age 2 in the future.

Call of Duty 4So I dusted off my copy of cod4 and played some of the online matchmaking for the first time in nearly two years. After getting sucked in and playing for a few hours I've come to the conclusion that no other call of duty game even comes close to having such a solid multiplayer experience (despite the fact that everyone that still plays it is trying to be a sniping god and failing). It's really hard to understand why that is because in theory mw2 should be better because of all the new features (I'm not even going to mention Black Ops broken multiplayer... and mentioning it in brackets totally doesn't count).

But I honestly believe one of the main reasons is the maps. In cod4 the maps are much smaller on average but that makes for a much faster paced game and it's much easier to feel the tide of battle shifting. I believe the change from halo 3 to halo: reach suffers from this as well. Halo Reach is great but I find many of the maps to big to have a decently paced game. Also the simplicity of cod4's system compared to it's successors really makes the experience more immersive. But I probably have to take nostalgia into consideration because cod 4 and halo 3 were the first two shooters I ever played (yes I know I got into shooters late but at least I started at 16 as opposed to 8 which seems to be the average age to start nowadays).

But all that considered I still believe none of the current or next call of duty games will live up to cod 4 and I'm one more Black Opsesc (It's in the dictionary I swear) Call of Duty game away from giving up on the franchise altogether.
