JAQ FAQAlright, I've found myself answering quite a few of the same questions in my messages as of late, so I'm going to make a FAQ answering them! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask in the comments, I'll update it when necessary.
Q: How did you get a job with Rooster Teeth?
A: I met Burnie and Joel at a poker game a few years ago at a mutual friend's house (Flash2000). At the time I was writing video game content for the website Ain't It Cool News (as "Monki") and Burnie asked me to pitch them some video game content ideas for the main page of Rooster Teeth. (That's where Forced Enjoyment came from.)
Eventually Geoff pitched me an idea for a gaming website spin-off for Rooster Teeth which became Achievement Hunter. After weeks and weeks of inputting data from every release ever on the 360, we launched Achievement Hunter on July 28th, 2008 with a Burnout Paradise video being the first official AH video to hit the web.
Nearly 2 years later the site is going strong and as of December 1st of 2009 I became a full-time staff member of Rooster Teeth productions.
Q: Will there be more Forced Enjoyment?
A: Yes, eventually.
Q: Will you add me as a friend on Xbox Live?
A: I'm sorry, but my friends list on XBL is full and I typically only add people that I know in person!
Q: Will you add me as a friend on Facebook?
A: I only add people I know in person on Facebook as well. Feel free to send me a friend request on Rooster Teeth though, I accept all friend requests there!
Q: Can I have your award?
A: I don't have an award to give! You can have some of Geoff's beer though.
Q: Will you play _____ (insert random game here) with me and help me get achievements?
A: When I play games at home, I usually am just screwing around, relaxing. Believe it or not, when you play games all day at work trying to pick up achievements, the last thing you want to do when you get home is keep working. I usually just veg out and cruise around in Skate 3.
Q: Can I play you 1v1 in Halo/MW2/FPS Game?
A: I suck pretty bad at first-person shooters. I forfeit the match, you win. Tell your friends you beat me.
Q: What do you use to capture video from your Xbox?
A: We use Blackmagic Intensity capture cards. Almost every machine at RT has one of these guys in it. We edit exclusively on Macs in Final Cut Pro.
Q: What is your favorite video game?
A: My favorite video game of all time would have to be Doom/Doom 2 or Warcraft 3. I spent more time playing that as a kid than anything else out there.
Q: How do I help Achievement Hunter?
A: There are a couple of groups that you can join that will show you some techniques to capture/edit game footage and submit them to us for use in community videos. They have tons of information. Go check out the Achievement Hunters group or the Community Hunters groups for more.
Q: What's your favorite place to eat in Austin?
A: I'm a huge fan of Threadgill's here in Austin. It's been around forever and has a very delicious chicken fried steak.
Q: What achievement are you most proud of?
A: One of the first games I perfected was Geometry Wars. The survive 1 million points and get 10x multiplier are two achievements that were tough as Hell. 100%ing that game is still my proudest moment on the 360.
Q: Have you lived in Texas your whole life and if so where?
A: I've lived in Texas (almost) my whole life. I'm actually a fifth generation Austinite. I lived in Orlando for two 6 month stretches while I was working at Walt Disney World. (I worked at the Disney-MGM Studios, the Great Movie Ride the first time and the Backlot Tour the second.) I also spent about four months in Los Angeles trying to get in the film world before being offered a contract job with RT that brought me back to Austin. I don't plan on moving again any time soon.
Q: Do you have a degree in anything? Even an associates. If so, from what University?
A: I have a Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas. As a matter of fact, something like half the office has degrees from UT. Hook 'em!
