NYCC!HERE WE GO!
Last week, Michael, Chris, Gus and I attended New York Comic Con in the beautiful (read: extremely stinky) New York City. You might have heard a lot of stories on the most recent Rooster Teeth Podcast, but I'll give you my perspective anyway.
I arrived in Newark after my one-hour flight from home, and had to hop the air train and take it over to the train, to take the train to Penn Station in NYC, and then busted a move over to the hotel (about a 20 minute walk). My commute from the airport to the hotel was longer than my actual flight. That's always fun.
After checking in and unpacking, I met Michael and Chris in the hotel lobby, and a bit later, we got pizza across the street. It was gross. I gave my leftovers to a homeless dude. Later on we all went to the convention center to begin setup, only to discover we were missing half of the shelves we needed and some of our merch. After setting up whatever we could, all of us, including Gus and his wife Esther (who, if you didn't know already, is the fuckin' bomb), went to dinner. After eating and drinking quite a bit, we headed over to a weekend favorite, the Celtic pub. There was more drinking and even some arm wrestling thrown in. I was ashamed that Gus beat me. Need to go pump some more iron. Rematch NYCC 2012?
Thursday was the first day of the convention. We waited until about noon before the rest of our stuff showed up, and finished set up. The first day was slow in comparison to the rest of the weekend. Anyone who stopped by our booth on Saturday or Sunday knows that it was constantly busy throughout the day. We didn't have a single lull.
One of my favorite things was getting to witness all of Gus' shenanigans. One thing that has become a necessity in working the booth is coming up with nicknames for all the merch. For example, when people are buying shirts and you call out for someone to grab it, you don't have time to say "can you get me one 'Ask me about my zombie plan' in large?" or whatever. So for example, we had the shirt "It's a Legitimate Strategy". When someone ordered anything above a large, Gus would say, "ONE LARGITIMATE!" or "ONE EXTRA LARGITIMATE!" etc. We also had the "Blarg" shirt, which would turn into "Blarge" or "Extra Blarge". However, my all-time favorite was when someone asked for a "You will fear my laser face" shirt. This resulted in us going "LA-LA-LA-LASER, FACE, LA-LA-LASER FACE!" (to the tune of poker face). However, Gus turned that into just going "can I get a medium *shooting lasers out of his eyes action with a frownie face*" which, of course, had my crying with laughter every single time.
Over the week, we spent time with various people from the community. It was great to finally meet Ray, Andrew, Justin, Jasmine, and others, and to get to see old friends like Jesse, Jeff, Jack, Nick, and Andrew #2, and to spend some quality time with my bro Steven and his girlfriend (AND MY FRIEND) Julia.
I had caught a pretty nasty cold on the first day, so having that and barely any sleep, while working 10 hour days at the booth was very exhausting. It didn't help that the con was supposed to close at 7 on Friday and Saturday, but there was never anyone telling people to GTFO. So we all had to wait around for an extra hour for the people to slowly realize the show floor hours were over. Really annoying.
Not having known Chris too well before this event, and then spending 5 days with him, I came to a few conclusions. 1) He is a friendly drunk. Almost too friendly (listen to the podcast). 2) When he's thinking about something, he walks really fast. 3) He loses pens. 4) His new nickname is Kraken. I also got to hang out a lot with Michael, who, as you should know by now, is totally awesome. Chris is too, of course. It's always great to have fun with your booth mates, and we had tons of it.
To everyone who came by the booth, thank you so much. We appreciate your support and even if you just came to say hello. Thanks for being awesome and friendly, and making the whole event worthwhile.

And here are some of Chris' pics, in case you missed his journal
Overall it was an extremely tiring, but really fun week.
Next event I'll be at is PAX East. Hope to see a bunch of you there!
