Dammit. So I've been trying to stack some switches here at work for like a week now. I've googled it. I've dove through ServerFault, I even went so far as to RTFM. Everything I've read online says do XYZ and it works, the manual says the software built into these switches auto-detect one another and when they're connected via a stacking module, they do all the "hard" work for you. Anyway, The two switches have been refusing to talk to each other, no matter how many reboots, software updates, direct points, anything i tried resulted in failure.

Now on something like day 4, I'm sifting through the switches current configuration, and notice a Link Down error.

Turns out it wasn't plugged in right.

Its always the simple shit. #sonofabitch.

I've had long calls come down to, "Oh, did you make sure that virtualization was enabled in the BIOS?"

Nope.

I replaced one of my customers radios one day. Upon completing the swap they weren't passing traffic, logging into the radio it showed a full link, bridge table showed a MAC on the LAN side, and our border router was assigning it an address. Still no traffic. An hour later I realized the radio was in Station WDS mode, the particular AP that it was connecting to was not in WDS. The microwave equivalent of not being plugged in right

Ever since the first time this happened to me, that's the first thing I check, especially around the office. 9 times out of 10, this is the problem, one day world, you will figure out how to plug things in correctly

I've seen that happen 3 times this week to my software developers. One came in at 9:30pm because restarting his new server wasn't working, it just wasn't plugged in.

2 days ago i decided to restart my linux box, now i can't SSH into it from my desktop and need to spend the next few days trying to figure out what file changed and is blocking my connection attempts. I try to do something beneficial and it comes back to kick me in the ass....

Wouldn't feel too bad about it considering it was Gus' fault all along.
