I could say a lot about this, but most of what I'd say is already in the newspost. We're basically taking RT Philly, our RT26 podcast and creating a monster hybrid that will not only be massively entertaining, but we hope will also be raising a buttload of money for Child's Play. All of us involved are really excited to get this off the ground, myself in particular. I see XPO26 as the next logical progression of what we tried to accomplish with RT Philly, which was bringing digital communities together to showcase people producing interesting (and oftentimes very entertaining) ideas and work. By moving away from a physical convention to an online streaming environment we can now reach even more people, which means more people can share, listen, and get involved. And did I mention it's all for a good cause (I did)? It'll be at times serious, at times completely goofy, and at all times entirely entertaining.
So please join the RT group, spread the word around, and stay tuned for more information throughout the summer.

It's been a while since I've updated people here about my life. If you don't remember, this is my last semester at Temple.... although I guess I should say was my last semester, because I finished the last of my responsibilities today. It's pretty weird. I'm turning 27 at the end of this month, and I've been in school continuously since I was 5.
That is a shitload of school.
But I've gained a lot of valuable experience in that time, and in just a few months I'll be putting it to use. I recently accepted a job teaching mathematics at a community college in North Carolina. For a long time I've known that I'd be teaching some day, but there's still a part of me that doesn't really believe it's happening so soon. In three months time, I will responsible for the education of dozens of students. Kind of scary
Virginia and I will be moving down in early August. We're both looking forward to living in NC again but we're sad to leave Philadelphia. This city has become our home over the last three years. Now we have to really take advantage of the luxuries city life has afforded us, because soon enough they will no longer be available to us.
Things will be very busy. My birthday is at the end of this month, our 2-year anniversary is at the beginning of next month, and about a week after that I go off to teach at the Governor's School again this summer (also in NC). All the while we need to be packing our life up and searching around for a place to live.
How are you all doing?

Today I am featured user. Because of that, I want to direct everyone's attention to BottomlessWit, which is a website and podcast my best friend Mikey and I run. We've both been pretty busy lately, so we haven't had as much time to work on the site, but we'll have a new movie review and podcast posted soon. Also check out my wife Virginia's shop and blog, Apricot Basket. I think she's an incredible talent; she does both fine art and craft. I wish she had some of her paintings up online, but alas, just photography, jewelry, and paper craft for now (and unfortunately my absolute favorite photograph of hers hasn't made it to her site yet... I was going to show it off). She spends a good deal of time on Etsy putting together treasuries, so if you're on Etsy you should give them some love; her treasuries can be found on her blog page. Lastly, I know the internet loves pets, specifically cats. But because I'm too lazy to do this picture by picture, go to Virginia's instragram if you want to see my cat and dog, along with some other stuff we get into. And also, just because I think it's great, watch this: vine.co/v/bgu515F3l1FToday I am featured user. SoI've been trying to figure out when to post this. Some people already know, but I figure it's important to put out there
I didn't pass my PhD exams. This will be my last semester at Temple as a student (the teaching assistantships are contractual positions, so I have to finish the semester).
I'm trying to stay positive. My ultimate goal has always been teaching; the reason I was pursuing the PhD is that in order to teach at the level I want (4-year liberal art schools being the goal), I pretty much have to have a PhD. I'm being a little disingenuous: I could teach at that type of school, but with only a Masters I'd be stuck teaching lower level and non-major courses as an adjunct, and that's not really what I want. I could teach at community college easily, but many community colleges don't have very extensive catalogs of math courses (and I might again be limited in what they'd let me teach).
On one hand this is obviously a big deal, and completely changes my plans for the future. On the other hand, I'll be getting into teaching sooner than anticipated. There are ways in which it's actually kind of a relief... And really, it may turn out that I'm perfectly content teaching at a community college or as an adjunct, or maybe even in a high school or something; who knows? And if I don't like teaching in any of those capacities, perhaps it will motivate me to go back for a PhD somewhere else; take another swing at it. I've often heard that students returning to school after working a couple years perform better in grad school
So while it's not clear yet if there's a silver lining here, I'm hoping that there is and I just haven't found it.
