The internet is the sourceOf all things cool.No matter how nerdy an internet term is, it always has a chance of going mainstream. I just heard my fratboy roommate say Epic Fail. If he knew where the term came from, I bet he wouldn't be saying it. However, I have noticed a trend in some terms such as Epic Fail. 1. The term starts up on the internet. (4chan anyone?) 2. The term spreads everywhere throughout the internet, sometimes even reaching Facebook. 3. Nerds start verbally relaying the term to one another. 4. Many Nerds have friends who are in the mainstream population, and the Nerd`s friends pick up the term and begin saying it in public. 5. At this point in time, the term is dying on the internet. It will appear rarely, but never in the same abundance as when it surfaced. 6. Which leads my roommate to say Epic Fail tonight. This trend seems to happen quite readily, with another example being awesome-sauce, which I heard a group of hockey players keep repeating. The moral of the story is this. Be careful what you say on the internet. It might end up being cool in real life. |
