Boston bombingI've always thought that if people like these two bombers came here and experienced the American way of life for themselves that they would lose their hate of this country and see us for who we really are. The younger bomber troubles me the most. I don't understand how a young man can be given freedom, education, and opportunity in this country and then do what he did to the people who gave him asylum. How does a kid who everyone says is just a normal guy suddenly become a terrorist? I'm hoping it was the influence of the older brother who forced him through familial bonds to participate in the attack. Still, it takes more than brotherly peer pressure to make someone plant a bomb on a busy street in the middle of a world-famous event. What could that something be? Why did he do it? I must know the answer to these questions and I hope the ensuing trial and investigation will bring them to light.
My world is a little sadder today. Not just for the act itself and the suffering of its victims, but also for my own loss of optimism that letting someone experience the good in America for themselves isn't always enough to stop their hate.
