      Bad karma?

Hopefully there will be no updates to follow this post but things are shaping up to be a pretty crappy day.

      1) Woke up late and had to rush to work, adrenalin pumping like crazy. Then it turned out that the boss won’t be in till late.

      2) Got to recount to my sympathetic coworkers the “chat” my boss and I had yesterday where she was so concerned that I wasn’t happy since I was almost being “challenging” or seeming to be “put out” whenever she asked me to do a research request. I “need to get used to doing research requests” even though I was only hired to do cataloging. I’ve only been doing research requests for 10 months now.

Oh, and I need to speak up when I see an issue with our (multiple and redundant) tracking systems. Even if the issues are obvious the status quo and have been like that since I got here. And there’s no way they’ll actually change since the department head is the one so attached to them and won’t let us change them.

      3) Discovered a big hole in the sleeve of my favorite (heaviest) sweater. Have enlisted the maternal unit’s assistance in locating replacements.

      4) Took 3 tries and 1 paper jam to print out a report for a volunteer project. The issued turned out to be random blank pages in the report. Ended up having to babysit the print job and pull out every other (blank) page while it printed over 30 pages.

It’s 10:30 in the morning. Please, please don’t let the day continue like this.

      New OTP

Had a realization on the drive home from work.

Grif/North has replaced Grif/Simmons as my headcanon OTP.

      When did this happen?

He's not replacing Grif as my no. 1 favorite but I have so much love for North.

Rain and thunder to do a commute make

Well, I had an unpleasant night/morning.

It’s busy week for me. Family’s in town, a certification test is looming, a performance will be attended…it doesn’t seem like a lot but it’s all large-scale and as unstoppable as a juggernaut.

This morning, I was supposed to meet up with a study group that’s prepping for the Certified Archivist exam in four weeks. With our various schedules, we have to meet at 7 in the morning near where I work. In order to get there, I have to be up and out the door by 6.

As a committed nite owl, this is fairly horrific for me. I don’t wake up properly until 10. And mornings never get easier, they’re the opposite; they get harder, no matter how much sleep I get.

I’ve developed a nifty trick for the night before a study group session: massive insomnia.

I can never get to sleep the night before study group. The night before I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning.

Last night was no different. I ended up getting out of bed at 2 am as just lying the dark feeling exhausted yet wide awake is fairly pointless. I read some fanfiction for about half an hour before going back to bed and ended up half awake, half asleep.

      At 5, the storm hit.

This week is rainy. All rain, all thunderstorms and lightning.

A huge, major cell two night ago dropped almost 3” of rain over night. A similar sized storm parked itself over the house last night at 5 and still hasn’t budged. Come 6:15, I decided that it was too nasty out to leave the house and texted one of the study group people to let them know that I wouldn’t make it. I’m sure conditions were much better closer to work – the problem would have been getting there first.

I ended up leaving the house at my usual time but didn’t get to work until after 9:30. Yay for bad weather and stalled vehicles along my commute!

      So now just…here…

I had a 10 am meeting that went well (although one participant kept saying “digitalized” instead of “digitized” – drove me nuts).

I know have a long to-do list that I get to tackle. Also, job security. Yay?Well, I had an unpleasant night/morning.

      Concerts and Sparkles

Tonight is going to be so much fun! My family and I are going to the symphony tonight to hear "The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses.

Featuring dynamic and compelling video on a large screen accompanied by a live symphony orchestra, "The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses" brings 25 years of the world's most popular video game series to life!

I have my Legend of Zelda shirt on under my work shirt -- no need to dramatically change clothes between work and the concert! If this is half as good as "Video Games Live", then this will be a very good night, indeed.

VGL is coming back to Texas in January 2013, btw. Eeeee!

Another fun thing is that I get to eat whatever I want today! As the institutional archive, my department has all the records for our institution and my coworkers and I (four of us total) pulled boxes for a hour in preparation for our biannual destruction. My primary job was to be the one on our stair ladder (thing?) pulling boxes off the top two shelves that were flagged for partial or complete destruction.

Honestly, some of the boxes were so heavy that you wonder if whoever packed them actually lifted them at any point. Just because there's space doesn't mean you need to fill it up.

It's days like today that explain why archives job postings include a physical fitness requirement such as "Must be able to lift [30/40/50] pounds."

I basically stocked shelves for an hour. It was quite the workout.

That's me for now. My plans for the weekend are:
--Mail the boyfriend the phone headset he left behind during his last visit.
--Mail a package to the friend stationed in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor *sob*.
--Get ribbon to border a cross-stitch I did for friends expecting their first child.
--Continue leveling my WoW alt, Sparkles the Retribution Paladin.

      Health rut

Health-wise, I'm stuck in a rut. My weight is trending the wrong direction thanks to a sedentary job, a 45-75 minute commute, living with my parents (for hopefully just one more month or two), and a definite lack of proper sleep.

I have no one nearby interested in doing anything health or fitness related. I don't know what my rent will be so I can't get a gym membership. It's over 95 degrees outside when I get home so I can't go run like I'd prefer.

I really want to drop ten pounds and nail my target weight. It just doesn't seem that I can do much to work on that right now.

      iPhone app

Cam someone help me figure out the iPhone app? I can't figure out how to check the threads I watch or how to comment on forum threads.

      New tech fun

So far the new iPhone is great. Haven't gotten to try Siri very much but I'm sure the opportunity will come.

I testing out the Rooster Teeth app. It isn't bad...although I'm still figuring out exactly how it works.

      Current plan for today is:

Go to Best Buy and get a case and screen protector.

Go back to the grandparents for dinner. If it goes the same way as last night, I'll be eating with my cousins and younger sister away from everyone else. Yeah, that's totally how you make me feel like you consider me to be an adult.

Get on WoW and help Kavall shoot all the Alliance leaders. I did it last night, actually, but it was too much fun not to do again.

      Small volume, high quality

The volume of Christmas gifts was definitely lower his year. However, the overall quality was astonishingly high. New phones for everyone!

I'm currently testing out the Rooster Teeth app - we'll see how it goes.

The new Star Wars MMO is pretty awesome. Who here has picked it up?

Well, right about now, I was originally planning to be announcing that tickets for RvB:TX were on sale. Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case. You might have heard that the RT staff has their own event planed for late May. We, the organizers of RvB:TX, don't feel it will be possible to compete with a larger and better organized event, so we're officially canceling our event.

But all is not lost! We're keeping the group page for two reasons:

      1) RvB:TX will now be a hub for all RT fans in and around Texas. We'll keep people up to date on RT related events in and around Texas, from small meet ups to the RoosterTexas event the staff is planning. If you have not already done so, please watch the group to stay up to date on the news.

      2) We're planning a smaller get together in Austin this winter. It won't be as big as our original plans, but it'll still be a chance for fans to get together and have fun.

For more details, please see the journal here.

Thanks! I've joined and it looks pretty interesting. I need to do a major kitchen clean out and restock this week so I can get back on track. Also, how are things going with the last semester? Got any post graduation plans lined up?

Sure! Go ahead and make the thread and I can promote it in a news post. I'd love to see it and I'm always open for some good meal ideas. I get a little stuck in simple meals day after day so I'd love some new recipes.
